I enjoyed the first 20mins or so of the interview, and thought the Lollapalooza comment was pretty cool.

I remember going to school after the show the next day and having to listen to the same boring argument that SP were studio magicians. That they couldn't replicate Siamese Dream live and Lollapalooza was proof of that. I heard the same thing after their VMA Disarm performance (I personally love the '94 era). Lots of people hated it, but it won over a lot of skeptics as well.

Yeah a popular narrative that I've heard from a lot of old-times fans was that they "sucked live". I was smoking weed with some guy outside of a Pixies show last year and he was at the 94 Lollapalooza and he was like "man, the Smashing Pumpkins fucking sucked. They're absolutely terrible live" but all of the footage I've seen of the era is kick ass... Sure, it's different, but not in a bad way.

His stage makeup for the Shiny and Bright tour is so... stupid. It looks like an 11 year-old thought it up. This photo is a bit different from what he'd had on stage for the beginning half of the tour, though--those sorta "cracks" or something coming out of the corner of his eyes--which were also really amateur-looking.

It's like he tried to do Adore Tour 2.0 makeup. But at least back in 1998, he could get a pass for the zombie/dead/mourning eye makeup, since his mom died, Melvoin died, that fan in the front row died, his best friend in the band got booted out, etc, etc. Now, in 2018, it just looks ridiculous.

THIS is the crappy eye make up Corgan is obviously wearing in the "Silvery Sometimes" video:

YES, Billy. You are your own producer, director, actor...
So why should you need a visagist to look like a clown?

Some advices from more talented make-up artists, Alice Cooper and Gene Simmons:

Lol I was reading an off topic section of a baseball forum and someone posted that image and everyone was laughing about it.

The guy that posted the picture said "lol everything about this picture..."

Another dude typed this about Jeff

"The guy on the right looks like he's having an existential crisis."

Billy's hard on for wrestling has leaked further over into the Pumpkins as he dresses up and childishly/half assily paints his face to play the part of Ø, the arty/tea loving wrestler everyone hates because they find him pretentious and annoying. I imagine the prerecorded opening video monologue for Zero on this tour as his wrestling character speaking in the ring while everyone in the crowd eyerolls him trying to appear intellectual.

I distinctly remember Zane calling Billy's Machina era dress sense 'stupid' on national television about 17 years ago. Obviously Billy didn't see it otherwise this interview would not have happened.

It’s fucking bizarre Billy has gone back that style. He has zero self-awareness. It doesn’t connect with any audience, in fact it’s actively repelling the mainstream nostalgia audience he’s chasing for $$$.

Nobody relates to that look, or thinks it looks cool, or wants to hear a 50 year old bald guy with shit face make-up in a black goth dress.

His Zwan dress down look and Zeitgeist overalls were a ton better.

I actually thought the Zeitgeist look was cool.

At the time I was actually assuming that they'd go for the sorta look that they're doing now in order to capitalize on the emo craze. All of those other bands at the time like My Chemical Romance and The Used went huge on the makeup, so it was refreshing to see the guys come back embracing none of it.

The white overalls, stripey sleeve cult leader look worked better than the black dress and face paint.

Think I figured it out. Jeff actually has a gun to James' back in the photo. You can see James trying not to react to having the barrel shoved in his spine.

The new photo is atrocious but I am pleased that Jimmy still pulls of the glam/goth thing better than Billy.

Am I the only one who doesn't care about the makeup/band image enough to hate it?

At least Corgan looked like he was having fun on the tour. Three-hour sets, and he still looked like a happy 12-year-old running around in a Batman costume.

That's more than I could say about him for the past decade, during which he looked consistently miserable and bored.

He was totally just going through the motions when I saw him during that Oceania tour.

The new music so far conisists of one okay song and one terrible song, though, so I'm all for criticizing Boulevard Cognac for that.
