How did Pirates relieve themselves?

In most ships there would be a place at the bow ( front end ) of the ship called the head. This was a hole in the floor to squat over. Faeces would fall directly into the sea below.

Ah yes, that age-old dilemma. When does the life of a fruit begin? Where do we draw the line between ovular fertilization and seed maturity? At what point is true fruithood achieved? And how, for that matter, do we define fruitness? I generally do my best to avoid talking politics on the board but I will say this: More well-qualified thinkers than I have been debating these very questions since long before I was born without having ever reached a satisfactory conclusion. And I suspect they’ll still be doing so long after I’ve finally quit this bitch of an earth. Still, one can’t resist taking a whack at the old chestnut from time to time can one?
