Default Billy dropped the ball on the vinyl reissues.

What a klutz

The reissues should have been packaged exactly like the original versions. MCIS should have retained the same track list. Adore should have been mono.

The mirrored cover art is a dumb gimmick. These aren't reissues, these are new editions. The closest thing to a true reissue is Gish, which is the most common record in their catalogue.

New MCIS tracklisting is dumb

I like the alternate covers though. Makes the original records seem more worthwhile

that was a dumb move. no one in their right mind treats them as true reissues, even just for the cover art.

Yeah, that purple and orange album cover does ruin the charm, that's for sure.

I listen to music on the "Stringray app" and now when they air Siamese Dream tunes they actually have the orange and purple Siamese Dream cover displayed. Looks ugly as fuck.

The CD tracklist of MCIS is the definitive tracklist. It actually has flow, the vinyl track order really sucks and just feels odd. The CD tracklist feels like a journey where the vinyl feels like tracks slapped together to adhere to the limitations of vinyl: side lengths, quieter tracks toward the center. Obviously Billy thinks the CD track order is THE track order and I must agree. It plays much better as an album.

The mono Adore sounds like crap compared to the stereo. Stereo lets elements breathe and gives life to the tracks. Fuller, less claustrophobic sounding.

Billy does suck, but he did a good job on the reissues. I don't mind the covers as they are meant to distinguish the reissue from the original master. I think they did an amazing job on the artwork as a package, especially MCIS, AFH, Adore artwork.

If you hate it so much, just go find and buy the original vinyl masters and enjoy.

The Aeroplane Vinyl Set is quite immaculate.

Siamese Dream has noise, Pieces is solid, and MCIS has that fukt Zero. The Adore remaster is great IMO

Thread would have been better with a video of a ball being dropped on a stack of reissues.

You really dropped the ball on this one Slunk my friend.

i just feel like it wasn't really significant enough of a remaster, in the case of the actual albums themselves (bonus tracks etc benefitted from better quality version of demos & shit that were circulating for a while)

but like, a listened to the MCIS reissue the other day, and it definitely doesn't sound bad but it's so similar to the original i don't really get what the advantages were to remastering this time around. can't imagine anyone actually winning a "pepsi challenge" of the original vs. remaster out of anything but sheer luck

i gotta say though i do like the presentation of MC's reissue, and i fuckin' love the presentation of Adore's

Just FYI for anyone wondering, they fixed the prior issues with the MCIS vinyl in more recent pressings. Zero (and everything else) sounds perfectly fine on the copy i bought in early 2016

Also, my SD is quiet. Talking dead quiet vinyl b/w songs at hi volumes. Maybe yours needs a wash?

I would have to disagree - I think that out of all the reissues, MCIS benefited the most from the remastering. Everything sounds a little more separated, you can hear the drums better. People harp on the production of MCIS, but to me it sounds of its time in a good way.

Yeah, maybe that's the case for the vinyl, but on CD the differences between MCIS' original and the reissue are night and day. The reissue sounds way brighter, somewhat less muddy, for whatever that's worth to people.

Nine Inch Nails are. They're remastering all of their albums and keeping the artwork exactly the same as the originals. They actually tout how they are painstakingly recreating the original vinyl artwork. Personally, I prefer some sort of differentiation between the original master versus the remaster. I found the remasters to be decent.

Deftones recently remastered their albums where some tracks featured new, unheard elements. They used the same artwork, but the remaster was absolutely terrible and blown out, quite grating to listen to.

Siamese Dream and MCIS are both multi-million dollar productions produced with the top names in the industry. I don't even understand what purpose there is in "remastering" the tracks 20-25 years later. It's not like they were some surprise hits that were made for 5000 dollars in some guys basement. They had every tool at hand to make the song sound how they wanted it to sound back then and people love those albums... Why even bother mucking with em? Just throw some bonus tracks with em and call it a night.

Aeroplane does sound good. But man, that artwork is a damned eyesore. SO lame.

Pisces sounds good, but the wrong version of Plume drives me nuts.

Never bought the Adore one on vinyl. Maybe I need to.

I wonder why they felt the need to so radically distort the artwork... That shiny foil shit IS NOT gonna age well... These albums are beloved classics, why fuck with the cover at?

In a few more years the "definitive from the archives" vinyls will come out with the original artwork. Don't worry.
