Default Michigan woman sees Collective Soul for 54th time

real news

Quote:
Palmer traveled from Grand Rapids to catch the show, held Saturday, June 27, in Veterans Memorial Park, the second of two concerts held in conjunction with the 28th annual Bay City River Roar. It wasn't nearly as far as Palmer has traveled before to see the band -- she's also seen them in San Francisco and while traveling on a Caribbean cruise.

She's been listening since their debut album, "Hints, Allegations, and Things Left Unsaid," was released in 1994.

I remember seeing them at a music festival and some girl I was with completely lost her shit when they came on. I was like er.. and it was 2000 or '01 when they'd kinda ran their course

I saw them in 2002. For some fucking reason it was $25 and I paid $25.

In my defense, I have no defense.

Theres always someone I guess.

I remember this girl I used to know was obsessed with them and bragged about seeing em like 10 times or something... Like she'd go province to province... This was like 14 years ago though- Seems a lot odder in hindsight.

I've seen them 3 times since 2010. Once at a 2010 free olympics performance, once at a club and once for free at the annual fair.

They're actually a group I'd recommend seeing.

collective soul: the kind of band that reminds you of why your cherry-picked version of the 90s is probably better than the real thing

I love it when people say that music was better in the 80s or 90s. Most of the popular music in those decades was absolute shit. All the "alternative" retro songs people like today were mostly ignored in the 80s. Even when a band like Depeche Mode hit the top 40 in most of the country they didn't get radio airplay. And for every successful "grunge" band there were dozens of horrible manufactured boy bands and pop singers that sucked ass but got more attention.

and it's all because people are horrible

I disagree with your assessment. I love a good 80s/90s pop song.

I'm also biased against the current EDM wave

I mean come on, where is this generation's version of "Lovefool" or "Don't Speak"?

Not to mention the elephant in the room Smooth by Santana feat. Rob Thomas (of Matchbox Twenty)
