music before it's time is difficult to appreciate. Even within a string theory.

I haven't listened to this in years and I can't believe how much I am enjoying it right now.
It almost doesn't make sense. |

I think Mechanical Animals will be viewed in a similar light. Though, I believe it will take much longer to fully appreciate, mostly based upon lyrical content. The idea of album's being better understood over long periods of time is a great extension of the "concept album".

Get over it, Mechanical Animals is not that good. "Good" isn't all that. But it is good. That's it.

Yes, machina does a fantastic job dealing with the idea of post humans.

I don't understand why everyone hated TFE to begin with.
It's better than the Zwan pop rock stuff. Lyrically it went into the introspective/light gloom lyrics he does so well, musically it co-opted all the synth pop stuff he likes so much. It's much more adventurous than anything else he's done since Machina. |

Here we go with all the "I've always liked TFE" "I said it was good back then" "TFE is genius" - threads about how you all were so "right" when TFE came out.
Admit it, when TFE came out most of us were like, "CamereEye is good, A100 very cool, Mina Loy is good, Walking Shade?!?! why was that the single? The rest, I don't get or I don't like" It was such a departure, even from Adore; plus, the songs seem to be better than they are actually portrayed on the record. A lot of people said, "if Mina Loy was presented as a rock song it would be great!" And so on... Hindsight is 20/20. Just enjoy the album for what it is (except "I'm Ready... don't listen to that, it should be black listed). |

TheFutureEmbrace. Good album that will get better with time. I was at the Sydney acoustic show and it brought out the beauty of those songs in a thousand new ways. Great memories.

I think what killed TFE was the live shows...much as they satisfied visually, it's hard to make a mainly electronic band "work" live...it comes across as very cold and clinical. With a live rhythm section, and the guitar presented in the "traditional" manner of having amps and pedals all together on stage, rather than controlled by a pre-programed laptop, it would have really come alive.
I was really looking forward to the London Forum show, but being in the front row, all I could hear was the pick hitting the strings, as everything was being sent through the speakers. Further back, or on the soundboard, I expect it sounded great. If the current lineup were to play TFE songs, it would sound awesome. |

for what its worth i really enjoyed the forum show, though i hadn't heard the album and didn't know the songs bar walking shade (which i remember really kicked ass)
i really enjoyed the visual spectacle, you make a valid point about electronic acts looking very motionless and clinical but it was more exciting than a show by virtually any other electronica act i can think of i wonder what they've done with the cool tentacle drums and keyboards now? |
