Thumbs up mogwai

Mogwai are playing my favourite venue (in glasgow) september 23rd. Which is also on a weekend. This is awesome news.

I've seen them there twice before, but I'll definitely be back for this. Just bought tickets online two minutes ago.

I was back in glasgow at the weekend just there, and decided to take a bus back to the outskirts of glasgow, and on my way out of town almost broke my neck trying to turn 180 degrees to read the details of a mogwai flyer I saw on a wall. Had no idea they were playing at all.

This is now the uhh official mogwai appreciation and gig-going-confirmation thread.

saw them once a few years ago, not having heard them before...easily the loudest gig i've ever been to. i'm sure i'd like them if i heard any of their recordings, but i wonder if having heard them prior to the gig would have made much difference given the volume. i did like alot of the quiter parts though, ratts of the capital, kids will be skeletons and christmas steps really stood out in my memory.

Christmas Steps is pretty much the best mogwai song, as far as them playing live is concerned.

They played a exultingly awesome song that matches that description when I saw them a few months ago. I didn't recognize it but I'm thinking it might of been My Father, My King. I've just never bothered getting it because I figured if, as a 20 minutes song, it was any good I'd have heard it named dropped way more often.

my father, my king is the silliest serious song title i think i know of.

i mean, can you imagine the mogwai dude's dad listening to that. "its ok son, the feeling is mutual"

Yeah, I just did some quickie research and it turns out it's melody is taken from a jewish prayer (translated: Our Father, Our King).
