I don't care how you mix Doomsday Clock. You will never convince me that there's a way to make THAT vocal performance sound good.

Man seeing the recent show in Edmonton, other than some occasional dropping of the consonants, I thought his voice was consistently the best I've ever heard live, which was especially impressive as they played for over 3 hours.
It's weird hearing him sing on Solara and sound like he's really struggling when he's nailing stuff that should theoretically be harder to sing. |

For an archival release, I would love to hear Monuments with all of the song re-written.

Worst Billy vocals? Now there's a question for the ages. Zeitgeist a million times over. A dry-as-fuck croak that dominates everything, even the guitar and kills the whole album. AG was nowhere near as bad but TbK the singing is front-and-centre again. Oceania was mixed well, somehow. Monuments he's a bit too up front again but his singing is better. Ditto with what we've heard from the new album so far. Don't get me wrong, the last 3 efforts the vocals could still handle being submerged a bit more in the mix, it's not like Billy's singing is a major plus point exactly.
Zwan, his singing is pretty good but on MSotS, along with some poor song choices the whole thing needed dirtying up to replicate the live sound and that means less prominent vocals and overall polish. |

Am I the only one who doesn't give a shit about the vocal mix? If the song is good it really doesn't matter. The songs on those albums were not good. A remix is not going to fix that.

I just wish Bill would sing more grungey again.
I've done some research and I've come to the conclusion that he could still do it. *proof* (I think this is the only time since the reformation that he didn't sing Bullet like a jackass. He's got the signature rasp and screeches down here) It's a trip to watch this, I had no recollection of Ginger being in the band with Byrne. I reckon this must've been one of her last gigs in the band. |

The songs are bad, shitty. No new mix can turn billys tg , oceania or monuments failure into gold. So far we knowthat solara is embarrassing and silvery is great. Both vocals up front and dry mix. So one can assume that the rest is also billy front and dry, sterile mix. We can only hope that the 6 songs remaining have some substance, vibe and nice melodies. If the album fails again- sp 2.are done. |

Again, it’s not just the screaming and a snarling that most of us miss. In fact, I’d be fine if he never screamed again. It’s more that when he sings now, he just sounds like an idiot. Trying too hard. Awful, shaky vibrato. Gone are the days where there was sincerity and earnestness in his straight-forward vocals. It used to be somewhat endearing to hear his old style. Now it’s just cringeworthy, and it ruins the opportunity to enjoy the music.
Also, that Bullet performance reminded me just how awful Mike Byrne was at drumming. |

Get your fucking hearing checked if you think Oceania's drums sound good. They sound artificial and programmed. |

Yeah man, the drums in that video are astonishingly bad. Byrne really was a debacle. I know a lot of people wanted to root for him because he was young and living the dream and stuff, but he just didn't cut it. Boneheaded decision from Billy to hire him in the first place.

At times, but Adore at the very least has the benefit of being a halfway electronic-focused album and was recorded across a bunch of different studios at different times. Oash has more of a traditional rock vibe about it for the most part and the absence of JC really, really hurts it. You could tell Mike Byrne's work just wasn't up to snuff.

I'd love to hear Bill take responsibility for this time, that Mike wasn't up to the job is 100% his fault for putting him there.
