Default XYU is the best SP song

I’m watching MCIS shows and for real this was SP at their most raw and powerful. That era of that band at its best.

It’s certainly one of their best heavy songs, sure.

When it comes down to fans talking about “best” songs it’s always thru the eyes of ruby this and porcelina that, and we forget about xyu.

XYU is great, but it’s one of the lower tier songs on MCIS.

Nowhere near aTop 20 SP song.

xyu fuckin' rips & for a long time was almost certainly my most-played SP song

what a fuckin' rager, on album & basically any live performance from '95-'97

fuck those alt versions though, tbh

It's good but there's plenty of other bands who do that sort of thing better and without the.. I dunno.. proto-incel, proto-MRA ickiness exhibited in XYU.

If I had to choose a best SP song it'd be something more uniquely SP.

It does have those things, but I always felt like he was showcasing the fucked up parts of his personality, hopefully in a way that stops it from coming out in a worse way. I mean it's basically some kind of super-controlling husband/boyfriend possessive abusive rape song, isn't it? I don't think Billy is that person, but that kind of controlling impulse might lose power by expressing it in some way that's not dangerous

In theory.

Weirdest/darkest interpretation I ever heard that stuck with me is that it was partially from the perspective of an aborted fetus. "I am the forgotten child"

Live he'd sing "And it began to snow inside her / she took a razor and she cut it out"

All I'm saying is maybe we need a little less XYU, and a little more XXU.

Not too far off. Billy talked about it in the liner notes for TAFH. Jimmy's drum pedal broke and the band kept playing the riff while he fixed it. When it took longer than they realized, D'arcy stopped but Billy and James just kept it up to annoy everyone. Once the pedal was fixed, you hear Jimmy jump right back in at the end of the recording. Actually one of the funner/more charming things Billy wrote about in the liner notes for the reissues.
