Have a bit of a mystery to solve. This show:

1991-08-20 Backstage Tavern, Seattle, WA

...has a note about being mistaken as at the Offramp. The flier for the show says Offramp, and I have someone with a first gen tape listed as Offramp.

Anyone know why it's listed as Backstage Tavern? Trying to dig up any fliers or anything for this.

David Mead in 2000 saying it was the Backstage. Wonder where he got that info. Trying to hunt down 1991 tour itinerary now.

My guess is that the bootleg has the right venue but wrong date, especially seeing as I have another new source with "Offramp" on the label.

But i'd like to figure out why Backstage was even listed, before I claim 20 years of data is wrong. Hoping some folks i've reached out to can dig out some tour listings or similar.

So I live in Seattle and I was under the impression that this show was indeed at the Offramp Cafe. The Offramp hosted all the grunge bands at some point here in Seattle (it was the sight of Pearl Jam's first show ever).

The venue portion and the bar are seperated, you could watch the show via a closed circuit television in the bar, but couldn't see it live.

The Offramp has changed names a few times (Graceland, The Offramp, most recently El Corazon) and often times the bar has had a different name, even though they are under the same roof (and ownership, at least currently). At first I would've guessed the bar was called the Backstage Tavern, but nope.

There was a Backstage Tavern in Ballard (north Seattle) and a lot of the same bands played there. It was a significantly smaller venue than the Offramp.

I wonder if it was scheduled at the Backstage Tavern, then moved to the Offramp cause it's larger?

So there is a Facebook page for people who used to go to The Backstage, I enquired and one of them said they saw the Pumpkins play the Offramp in '91 here in Seattle.

Case closed!

Oh yeah well ive got an affidavit over here of someone who’s used fbook once who says they heard that somebody else was posting briefcases full of fake answers to enquiries on obscure Offramp groups for ppl who said they saw sp shows at the Backstage

Case closed on Backstage tavern. The flier says Offramp, a calendar for one of the Zines from August 91 says Offramp, the tape says Offramp, and the owner of the Backstage at the time says pumpkins never played there.

Will be updating SPLRA with this new info and putting out a new AUD source soon.
