That's my whole point though. Weezer never wrote anything beyond pop music with vapid lyrics.

They're like all the loser with none of the intelligence.

I dunno, I guess lyrical intelligence never really mattered much to me... As long as it's not noticeably bad and extracts some emotion from me.

I mean look at Corgan... If you took A LOT of his lyrics at face value you'd see that they're pretty stupid too.

That's true and all, but Rivers could never write a Porcelina or a Ruby or Geek

What's offensive about Weezer is they pose as this band of geeks or whatever when "geek" shouldn't even be an image. It's like high school never ended for them.

I dunno man. I think they're just naturally nerdy guys. I guess the bassist kind of hams it up for the image, but I don't see how the drummer or guitarist really pose as geeks or anything.

Rivers' glasses are kind of his trademark thing now, but what can ya do. It should be pointed out that he rarely even wore those in the 90's. I think he only had em on in 1 of his music videos and wouldn't generally perform live with em on in those days.

It's not just the way they dress. It's in their sound and lyrics.

Yeah, they definitely tried to ham that shit up later in their career.

Like Beverly Hills... That song pretty much emblemizes exactly what you're saying.

But that was ALWAYS their image. No one thinks of Weezer as anything other than that "Geek band that comic con people like".

I dunno man. Heres some footage of the band from their glory days. Doesn't seem like they're trying to look geeky or anything

Rivers just naturally looks nerdy

It's not about them TRYING to look or sound like anything.

It's the fact that that's all they are. Again, it's all of the loser with none of the intelligence.
Most musicians are geeks or outsiders to some degree but there's much more to them than that.

Rivers' depression in the 90's sure manifested itself physically

My age is pretty irrelevant here. I'm not sure how it matters.

"oh really, weezer was anybody's favorite band once? lolol
no none thinks of them as anything but the band comic con fans like"

I mean, seriously. I don't think something like that would fall out of your mouth if you were even born when Weezer started.

That's like me saying oh really, nobody thinks of the Stones as anything but old farts nobody cares about.
But please, continue.

I don't think someone who only just left high school can say that someone else never left high school

Idk. Most people who were around when Weezer started tell me that's exactly what they were even then.

I feel like the whole geek pop thing is what Weezer owes its success to. Which is why Pinkerton didn't do nearly as well as Blue.

Weezer is a band I actually like btw. I just think it would be funny to list them as your FAVORITE band.

I thought Weezer just were who they were without putting on any kind of geeky "act", and people picked up on it. I personally believe that almost every artists worry a great deal about their image whether they admit to it or not, but Weezer as they existed in the 90's doesn't seem to intentionally come across as geeky, it feels pretty genuinely who they are. SO PUNK RAWK.

A band like Fun come across as pretending to be geeky.

I haven't read the thread yet so it's probably way off track by now.

Before I actually read the thread, though, I didn't dig Blue for the longest time. I was introduced via Green in 2001so that was always my fave. I still like Green, Blue, and some of Make Believe (the last mostly because of nostalgia since it came out during the best summer of my life and it was mine and B's first concert together). Pinkerton doesn't really do it for me and I haven't bothered with anything after Make Believe.

Alright now I'll go read the thread.

But I've always checked out their new releases and theres always been flashes of brilliance still present. So I think it's promising that they recorded with Ocasik and are deadset on bringing back the old vibes.
Autotune was part of the old vibes?

*Note that I wasn't actually saying I am an Everclear fan; rather I was making a jestful observation that Alexis Schlamegaban or whatever his name is always says "yeah-ah" in his songs.

+ there's a bunch of fantastic songs from the last decade or so even though they haven't been able to put out a consistently great album since Pinkerton. Some of this stuff is just as good as they ever were.
