i was listening to the 2008 Massey Hall shows, and they are barnstormers.

Finally got around to watching a show from the '15 tour, and even with JC back and the band *sounding* good, it felt like a damn funeral. Billy looked genuinely bored except during "United States" and Crying tree of mercury.

Part of the issue is this - the 20th anniversary band had been together for nigh 18 months of relentless touring. I remember JC saying it was the best band he had ever played in.

After JC leaves, the next stable lineup lasts about 3 years, but with so much middling touring in small arenas and mediocre response to the paltry recorded output - pretty discouraging.

Since then Billy has not led a lineup that's lasted more than 4 months.

Bands take time to develop. The original SP wasn't any good for like 3 and a half years.

The more publicly conservative he gets, the more he seems to be musically conservative. To make up a quote:

Bowie at 48 was trying to look like Trent Reznor and releasing Earthling and ...hours, so I mean, it's not out of the realm of possibilities that Corgan could release a good album again.

But then he would have to admit he can't sing and musical greatness doesn't just fall of out of his ass--I mean, that he would have to let songs incubate and take longer to write them then he does now. Which he won't.
