A grandpa? Trust me, if you get someones number it's much better to give em a call. That way, if they're not interested, you'll realize it almost instantly... That way you avoid the runaround of the person just trying to be "nice" and saving face (IE the exact sort of scenario that's troubling Elhp)

And if the lady likes you, you'll be able to pick up on it from the conversation and her tone/enthusiasm/interest in talking to you.

I'm only 28 for heavens sake. It's not like everyone wasn't texting when I was 20. But I realized quick enough that it wasn't the approach to take if it's someone who you don't know very well on a personal level. I certainly wasn't block-headed enough to be SMS texting girls about bands I like who are 30 years old.

So what? Everyone does. Doesn't mean she's interested in some guy texting her about these bands she could probably care less about. TONS of people like Joy Division and the Smiths man. Pretty much as mainstream as you can get.

You know, it's like meeting a chick who casually mentions that she likes Led Zeppelin... I'm not gonna start sending her a bunch of texts about Edgar Winter and Lynard Skynard

Yes she was interested in these old bands. I don't know where you get off thinking that all girls think 80's music is lame.
Her favorite decades are the 60's and 80's.

I asked her if she knew what "No Wave" is. And she was like "Do you mean new wave?"
And I was like no. Amd she was like give me some bands in that genre to listen to Ill prob like them.

And I did and she did listen to them and she liked them.

That's cool. Look man, I don't doubt that she enjoys similar kinds of music that you do. But for most people that isn't something that concerns them when searching for a romantic relationship. If you liked this girl and wanted to get to know her you probably could have done without all the music-nerd talk.

You keep using "nerd". And you are giving all women this quality of dislike for knowledge of something

I dunno dude. Just giving my opinion on how I see the situation from the little bit of facts that you've shared about it. You gotta realize that most women probably aren't going to have the same sorta passion for music that you do.

I was the same way though. I was this kid in a rather popular band, music was my life and this girl I dated for about a year was this huge Eminem junkie. Had his posters all over her room and I'd always just rant and rave about it like an asshole, making fun of her. I realize now how stupid it was of me.

And you think post-punk is for "hipsters".

Like again, I don't think you get it.

I like all sorts of music ranging from many different genres.

Are you suggesting that since I enjoy some grunge era Canadian music that my musical knowledge/passion is inauthentic?

That's pretty narrow-minded man.

I don't think post-punk is for "anything". There is a lot of hipsters that'll wrangle off the bands on cue like you do as if it adds to their authenticity or something.

Who gives a shit? It's just music.

I'll hear Stacey Q come on at a super market and dig it, singing along like a fool.

we all suspect this is true of you, that you have a list of bands so you can fit in with other people but fuzzy takes that list and decides it sucks, never listens to any of it and then tells us how great and heartfelt he is for singing along with supermarket music

It's hard to understand why anyone would like it, but I have friends who are all about Kroeger. Definitely strange, horrible music tastes, but it has no bearing on their actual character.

here's the thing fuzzy, if they like nickelback that much it's because of the lyrics and how it speaks to their souls
