Default New JC record coming up

Bye Bye Blackbird.
it's apparently the final of a trilogy with Frank Catalano, and apparently the jazziest.

you can now pre-order it by pledging, or order all 3 albums on CD or vinyl (the latter option being very limited).

At least JC follows through with his plans

Ooh, you can have dinner with Jim/Frank for $500. How much was Billy's again? $10k?

My Vitriol sold some autographed drumheads on their pledge page. I'd buy the fuck out of that if Jimmy did it

Oh, yeah, like with This... I mean, Skysaw... I mean, after he was done with the Pumpkins... I mean, before he came back for the 3rd time. Oh well. You know what I mean.

How is this music anyway?
Anyone been following it?
I have the vaguest memories of Loki Kat, or whatever it was called. Not too bad, I believe.

First Complex record was fucking great
He apparently recorded a follow up with Billy Mohler and it was due out in August (according to a tweet he sent to me) but has since gone quiet about it. Unsure where that's at. Jimmy did an interview a few months ago on some podcast site (I forget the name) and they played a sample of a new song, sounded good.

I've given some of the Frank Catalano stuff a listen. It's fine, nothing "amazing", just trad jazz with Jimmy laying it down in the back.

I too found it weird what happened with Skysaw, how he suddenly left the band and there was no explanation as to why or what changed or anything. Shame, they had some good songs, guy's voice wasn't the best but it wasn't the worst, inoffensive rock anyway.

I just wanna hear more Complex!

Yeah I really need to actually check out that record. That snippet of him playing (?)Streetcrawler at the beginning of a drum clinic sounded amazing

And I have no idea if the Catalano stuff is good at all. It's a nice listen, but I listen to no other jazz ever so I can't really appreciate it at all

The first Catalano EP featured "interpretations" of songs from A Love Supreme. The second one was, as someone else mentioned, a typical jazz record (although it did have a Jimmy drum solo).

it's all contemporary jazz, i don't know what the other guy meant by "trad"...
i really liked the love supreme collective, it's modern but it actually had a coltrane feel to it.
some purists might say that jimmy's drumming is not very subdued

trad, contemp, whatever. I'm not really a jazz-head. I like my fusion though, which is why I love the first Complex record and the stuff with Frank is fine but doesn't really give me a decent music hard on, with or without Jimmy, yanno.

Eloquent as ever; http://www.avenueradio.com/bowie_show/ but skip to the end [14:35] and sounds like Jimmy is back in SP to me...

Wow, yes! Mentioned writing and touring with BC again. Hopefully if they write together the output will be good, although subjective.

We'll see.
