Do you expect to ever like a new Pumpkins release again?
Admittedly there might only be one more studio album if what BC said is true, but even if there isn't, do you think you are destined for endless disappointment, or are you optimistic?
If you think you are destined for endless disappointment, what are a couple of things which would you would love to see change? |

Well I liked more or less 2/3rds of the last one after not really giving too much of a shit about the "oach coach" so i'm inclined to say optimistic

I was pleasantly surprised by Oceania and MTAE, and he comes up with the odd live only song that is really good. I'd be pretty disappointed if Tiberius or One and All didn't make it to the album.

If Billy recorded a fart...I'd like it. And I might try to fart along.

Come on, let's give'em some "Anaise," I mean anal-ease, for their virgin ears. Does that even make sense? I don't know but I'm runnin' with it. BILLY IS A GOWD.

I love Billy. It saddens me to think that he has sperm in his testicles that will never be given the chance to continue his nasally bloodline...

i think he's reached the level where you'd expect him to be, making competent-to-medicore comfort-food with his contemporaries. oceania and MTAE remind me a lot of the last two foo fighters and pearl jam records and was roughly the same quality as the last soundgarden and NIN and king of limbs. as opposed to the outright shitshow of teargarden or TFE or most of zeitgeist. no reason to expect any more from old rich dudes.

I'll try to be optimistic. Overall, I've been pleasantly surprised by the last two efforts... I just wish Billy would stop doing interviews. I try to avoid them at this point because I know he's just going to say something dickish and stupid. But as far as the music goes... to me, Oceania sounded like the album Zeitgeist or Machina SHOULD have been. Not just because a couple of the songs took me back to the Siamese Dream/Mellon Collie glory days, but because I also found it bold and just straight-up fun. I love listening to Quasar and Panopticon when I'm at the gym doing pullups. Makes me feel like I'm Superman.
And overall, I like MTAE. Some of the songs don't quite work for me but Tiberius, Beige Beige, Anti-Hero, One and All and Drum + Fife are all great songs. And Monuments and Run2Me are pretty good, if you can get past how repetitive they are. I think that's the most troubling thing about Billy's songwriting these days. He's so quick to trash other artists like Foo Fighters for "not evolving" or Pearl Jam for "not having the songs" but seriously Billy, who are you to talk when half the songs you put out anymore are just you repeating the same line over and over and over and over again? Seriously, in what world is something like Astral Planes an example of good songwriting? So... I'm cautiously optimistic. If he can cut down on the repetition in his songs, then I'll probably enjoy his next effort. I know there were rumors that the next album (or maybe the one after that, if there is one?) would feature "doom metal." And I believe Billy hinted at that last week on Twitter so I hope that's true. While one of Billy's strengths has always been "happy sad" songs, I've always wanted to see him just do a full-out, doom-and-gloom, asskicker of an album. Something like the tracks on the Zero single (sans Pennies, of course, though I do love that song too), only a full album. |

i wish, but i doubt it shall ever come to pass.
for a return to form we need jimmy and jamez back and billy to swallow his pride and start singing like he means it. so, yeah, it's never gonna happen. |

Actually, I am not sure if that would make much difference. They obviously didn't contribute much in the studio at times, and the drumming hasn't been the weakest point of the last couple of albums IMO. More importantly of course, if he isn't going to let other people take him out of his comfort zone and go in different directions, it doesn't matter how talented (or not) the people he is working with are.

I would like a demo tape. Pure BC in sadlands (or whatever) with his acoustic and drum machine. No Howard over criticizing or BC second guessing himself or over the top over production. Other than that, the answer is "NO!"

Or it could be the sound track you listen to while watching the next Batman movie.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed MTAE, so yes. I mean, I learned to keep my expectations very low a long time ago.
