Default Glass House 2001 appreciation thread

Less than a year after SP’s final show at the Metro, Zwan came roaring out of the gate with this fucking amazing set:

https://archive.org/details/zwan2001-11-16.schoeps.shnf

Chrysanthemum is a killer opener, especially given the context (yesterday we were going somewhere). Imagine Mary Star opening up with that. It’s also one of the best drum parts Jimmy’s ever written.

Listen to What Have They Done to Me?. They played that song live 4 times but it’s amazing.

“they took from me all that one could take/my children, my loves, my orchards of tears/it's all been borrowed so we must say/they sit in the kingdom of light”

How does he write something so good and abandon it? Fuck!

Never Give Up is amazing…even though parts come off kinda lame, there’s gems in there like “one guess would be my loneliness/my uninvited guest I call my friend”

____

Drives me insane that they never went further with this stuff. I wonder if Corgan has SBDs of these shows in the archives. alberto? robinhood?

There are so many amazing songs from those first 4 shows that never saw the light of day. Such a shame!

Chrysanthemum is one of the most moving and powerful songs Bill has ever written because of the context and timing that you mentioned. great fucking song

to be clear... Zwan was pretty awesome for a very brief period in time. What we would all agree with is that their album, Mary Star Of The Sea was a huge failure and disappointment and it was lame and sucked and was gay as fuck

I know right?! They could have gone straight into the studio and cut an amazing record.

I can only imagine what it must have been like for the other members to have Billy run the ship into an iceberg.

No we can't agree on that. "Mary Star..." is amongst the best things Corgan has ever put out and the Djali Zwan album was shaping up to be even better. An acoustic, "Let it Be" style record full of songs like "Friends as Lovers, Lovers as friends", "Riverview" and "For Your Love" could have been outstanding. I hope that we will someday soon get the boxset of Zwan material he has been promising fans for a decade now.

listen to the way the crowd pops when he first starts singing. Good luck ever getting a reaction like that again Bobo.

Bill occasionally has moments where it seems, despite all the shit he creates for his career, he may be able to pull through. The 2010 Record Store Day show had a "good vibes" feeling similar to this. But yea, all these years later, the crowd going insane when Billy starts singing sends shivers down my spine.

yeah that show was a serious anomaly, especially in terms of the setlist. Why have we not seen another performance of "Soot and Stars" since then? Great version.

Agreed. "Ava Adore" and "Tristessa" sounded great. For a split second, it looked like Billy might pull it off.
