Default itt we listen to and rate an assortment of Depeche Mode covers

7/10

Has an undeniable comedic quality that cannot be denied.

Enjoy The Silence is the cliche nu-metal band cover. Exhibit B:

3/10 Nickelback never sounded this good.

2/10 It's like if Marilyn Manson had a kid brother on the spectrum.

Yeah, I got this from one of those music clubs (Columbia House? BMG?) when it came out, strictly for the SP and Deftones tracks. Lots of nice surprises stuffed into that album.

Yeah, the Cash cover is great. Also loved his take on Soundgarden's Rusty Cage.

He brought out the beauty in Nick Cave's Mercy Seat. Got me to really start appreciating that song.

I've always liked the Deftones, Smashing Pumpkins, Failure and Johnny Cash covers that have been posted. Not familiar with most of the others.

there's a Cure cover on that tribute album that i always found disappointing cos it just sounds like The Cure trying to be Depeche Mode, instead of making World In My Eyes a bonafide Cure song

I don't go The Cure for covers. Robert never seemed capable of doing that, making others' songs his own. Like, I enjoy their take on Bowie's Young Americans, kinda mashing it up with the Wedding Song, but it doesn't scream Cure.

A few nights ago I was on a bus late evening and the driver was just cranking out DM's greatest hits. Sang along to Never Let Me Down when I got up to disembark, he joined in with a big smile. It was nice.

If I recall, that cover was a Robert Smith solo thing credited as The Cure. It always sounded half-assed to me.
