relevant quote i found

Quote:
Bands like Earth exemplify one of the few facets of guitar music that is overlooked, its pure sounds, its sustain and its bold Western-Movie-Soundtrack feel.
that's the vibe i'm looking for. western movie soundtracks. slow and loud guitars.

i love this quote so i'm posting it here in full because i agree with it 100% minus the specific bands it mentions

Quote:
Earth is ambiance/drone with guitars. While I listen to a lot of electronic + drone, when I go back and listen to Earth, Sun O))) or Boris I am reminded how versatile a guitar can be, especially with the right processing/effects. When a listener grows out of the stage of just listening to commercial music, the listener can easily become drawn towards deep electronic/synthesized sounds and completely dismiss the guitar as a boring instrument of pop rock. However lacking in versatility the guitar may be to modern electronic sythesis, the guitar has a unique sound and is the last instrument from the classical music period that gets used often in modern songs. Bands like Earth exemplify one of the few facets of guitar music that is overlooked, its pure sounds, its sustain and its bold Western-Movie-Soundtrack feel. If you are looking for something more progressive listen to Boris.

probably not what you're looking for, but my last suggestion is White Hills' "A Little Bliss Forever"

UPDATE

been driving around for two weeks straight playing HEX by EARTH.

Also I got hard copies of the other Jon Porras album "Orilla Obscura" as well as the two Evan Caminiti albums "Night Dust" and "Dreamless Sleep". The 4 Porras/Evan albums could be one long album if they wanted it all sounds the same and great and it's strange, I don't find Barn Owl all that satisfying. I feel like when they're apart there is much less bro-ing going on or something I can't put my finger on it.

i assume you've heard harvey milk? their second album, Courtesy and Good Will Towards Men, is great. So is A Small Turn of Human Kindness and their debut is good too. Avoid the rest.

I'm no longer accepting suggestions.

Between Earth and Duane Eddy, and those 4 solo albums from the Barn Owl guys I'm all set for slow heavy minimal guitar music.
