album leaked this morning. the pop element is there. beats and hooks in the forefront, no cringe worthy tracks. pretty solid listen, giving a second spin now.

lindsay buckingham's guitars are pretty out of place, but refreshingly so. 'in two' is a great track. a lot of the tracks have a peter gabriel by way of up thing going for it. the bonus remixes are surprisingly solid, too.

it's out there on torrents by now, FLAC or v0.

Best album since The Fragile.

By far.

And I love Year Zero.

I Would For You is incredible.

my only problem with 'everything' is that it sounds like that one song on with teeth that sounds like pearl jam with dave grohl drumming. its like nin doing the who. because of that i think its the weakest song on the album. it makes sense that the two singles (haunted and everything) would be the heaviest and catchiest pop format songs on the album.

overall i like (read: didn't hate) hesitation marks. lyrically, cringe moments were low.

funny how two people pointed out that the cringe worthy moments were at a minimum when I came here to say how everything after came back haunted was cringe-fucking-tastic. this is like Zoloft fueled white guy R&B shit.

I wasn't expecting this stuff be so danceable. Great beats on a lot of tracks. Good album with some real surprises.

The chorus of Various Methods gave me shivers when I heard it the first time. Trent still has it somehow, after all these years. It'll take a while for the whole album to sink in, but I have a feeling this will end up being my favourite NIN album since The Fragile.

Why do people love The Fragile so much? There are some great tracks on there but it's soooooo bloated.

It's not though. The production is crisp and clear. The packaging is a nice glossy double-gatefold with high-colour photos. It's just a double album with a bad case of double album syndrome.

By construction I meant the actual songs. Not the production or the lol cover art. Idk what you know about this album but it was put together from about a million different scraps from a million other ideas. Most songs weren't even written; they were constructed. So - the entire thing is poorly put together. IE - it's fragile.

What else? Fragile also relied heavily on organic and acoustic instruments ( as opposed to running EVERYTHING thru a computer for manipulation) so a lot of the music is less than perfect in terms of timing and quantization.
