Does The Aeroplane Flies High work as an album
I made a cd of all the b-sides from The Aeroplane Flies High. I think it's as good as any album they put out. Do you think the Aeroplane b-sides work as a cohesive record?

No, I don't think so. TT, BWBW, Zero all work as cohesive EPs, and maybe 1979. . . but you can't just play the tracks back to back and have to all work, not in my opinion. You could maybe pick out an LP's worth of songs that go together, but that's still only a maybe.

maybe if you rearranged the songs in the way mcis was arranged then i guess it would be a fine album...but in order...who really wants to star an album with a james iha/lady from veruca salt duet where it's hard to tell who's playing the girl and who's playing the asian

When I got TAFH I consolidated the five CD's onto two CD-R's to keep the originals in good condition and to save space in my CD wallet:

Nice try Kentaro, but the fact that you inclooded the Pistichio Medley at all just goes to show you're trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.
It doesn't work as an album. It works as a boxed set. I generally don't think of myself as a know-it-all, but I think it should be pretty obvious that these songs don't meld. The Pumpkins had probably 80 songs to choose from for MCIS, and they picked 28 that worked quite reasonably well together. . . plenty left for a nice set of EPs, but the MCIS sessions don't work as a quadruple album. Or two doubles. Whatever. . . .this thread should have ended by now. No more posting here!!! |

Does the organization of an album matter when all the songs are awesome? I'll let you decide.
Wait, Dead answered preemptively, sharp as a tack that one. |

I arranged all the tracks from the mellon collie era into the following on my ipod:
MCIS (added medellia of the gray skies after porcelina, set the ray to jerry after take me down, rotten apples after in the arms of sleep, meladori magpie after we only come out and tonight reprise at the end) <-- i thought these tracks really fit into the vibe of this album. MCIS Demos (with vocals) <-- *******s all vocal demos from gravity demos, demo's for D'arcy etc.. *******s methusela MCIS Demos (instrumentals) <-- *******s instumentals from all the gravity demos and miscellanious stuff like acsendo and 666 audio Then I arranged the TAFH as follows: 1 God 2 Mouth of Babes 3 Tribute to Johnny 4 Marquis in Spades 5 Pennies 6 Transformer 7 Ugly 8 The Boy 9 Cherry 10 TAFH 11 Believe 12 The Last song I don't view these as part of the album but are tagged on the end: 13 ...Said sadly 13 Blank 14 Jupiters Lament 15 The Bells finally the covers: 16 Destination Unknown 17 Clones 18 You're all i've got tonight 19 Dreaming 20 A night like this 21 Sad Peter Pan 22 My Blue Heaven 23 Christmas time 24 Pistachio medley |

They are B-Sides for a reason. Not saying that there not good enough for a Album, but it all doesnt blend. Plus, singles are cheaper.

But when has a Pumpkins cd have 22 songs on it? It's usually around 15 songs.
The thread is about an Album, not a cd with how ever many songs you can fit on it. |

organization does matter, at least a little bit. look at dark side of the moon... part of its beauty is how well the songs blend together. of course the awesomeness of a song is the most important factor, but organization does matter. |

Mellon Collie Disc 3 bootleg works pretty well as an album. it saves me the trouble of having to switch discs, at the very least. so "yes" is my answer to this thread.
