Default To Love Somebody V. Turn My Way

I think this is a worthy topic. Billy Corgan will probably never work with anyone more accomplished than these artists. Which song do you prefer?

After listening to To Love Somebody a couple of times again, I have to say I can't think of a Cure song that bad. There are only a handful of Smashing Pumpkins (through 2000)/Zwan/Billy Corgan solo songs that I think are that bad.

So how do you put two musicians with such great catalogs together and create such a mediocre song? Did they just mail it in to say they worked together? Am I missing something?

No one shows appreciation like SP fans, this is still an awesome forum.

I'd like to listen to that demo.

Quote:
The original song by the Bee Gees is in a major key and very up-sounding, and I knew it wouldn't fit that way. So I slipped it all into a minor key, so it's the same melody but sadder.

We finished the demo and my engineer thought it was one of the best things we've ever done - and that was just the demo. So I'm pretty good friends with Robert Smith from the Cure who were a big influence on me. We're not just rock buddies, we sort of have a loving relationship from afar. So I called Robert up and said, "Will you sing on my record?" He said, "Sure, whatever you want." I said, "It's a Bee Gees song." Over the Transatlantic line I hear Robert Smith going "The Bee Gees?" I said, "Trust me, just do your thing and it will be fine." He did and it was great.
(BC, SheKnows.com interview Aug. 2005)

SBD of this one would be nice, the rec sucks badly.

His singing is off, but I still like it - 1:49, 3:03, 3:22

Did Smith and Corgan even meet in the studio together for this song? I'm thinking Smith did his part back in England and sent it to Corgan?

No.

The other way around; BC mailed the track to Smith and Smith sang over it and mailed it back.

Thank you. I guess this solves the mystery for me. How can such talented people work together and produce something that sounds so flat and uninspired?

It was literally mailed in.

To Love Somebody is one of my favourite TFE tracks. It has a great Vangelis/Blade Runner type vibe imho.
