If he had sang these songs in his soft "Obscured" voice, or even his Adore voice, they would be 100% better and we'd have no issue at all.

Something broke in me the first and only time I heard what he'd done to "Rose March" in the studio. I'm not sure why that was the straw that broke the camel's back exactly, and there'd certainly been plenty of shit before then I hadn't liked, in terms of songs and band member behaviors and whatever, but that's the definitive before-and-after point for me in terms of how I felt about the Pumpkins in general.

Yes, I can relate to that.

Still wondering, besides that horrible change of voice, after more than ten years of great music, all that came after that is mostly just... bland and forgettable?

The quality for example of his acoustic work during the Adore and Machina era, is so different from this American Gothic stuff. How come?

The Rose March's production, arrangement and vocal performance are terrible, but what really ruined the song imho was the way he added the "can't you see me at all" lines. The early live versions didn't have that part at all. It turns a song that is relatively subtle and really quite beautiful into a pathetic, entitled cryfest. I'm pretty sure this was the only time the studio version of a song retroactively ruined my opinion of the early version.

I don't think the songs themselves are terrible (except Pox) but it was so shocking. This was the first major vocal downgrade...I mean, vocal shift.
