Default Billy’s personality (MBTI)

Which type do you think he is? He’s always been kind of a dick, but lately he’s just been out of his fucking mind.

I’m guessing ESTJ?

INTJ for sure. I don't see the extraverted aspect at all.

I’m INTJ so that scares me, lol. I suppose I say extroverted for him because he seems to be comfortable being a public asshole.

for shits and giggles i took the test on that site, got an intj

billy and i are twins

i'm usually an intp (or sometimes infp) on those tests, which despite being only one letter difference is super duper different

i used to really know a lot about this stuff but then i studied psychology for reals

give me statistical analysis or give me death

surprised you guys are going for t tbh

more like enfp

he definitely feels more like a judgey type but you know, mbti doesn't account for mental illness/ptsd. not a dig on billy for the record

this would be good except he does seem extroverted to me. plenty of artists seem way more introverted, including a lot of the other alt people like yorke, cornell, conor oberst, etc

i consistently get INFP these days. judge me

@reprise are these anything more than horoscopes? i know the thing about how sometimes it's written so generally it applies to everyone. but some seems too specific to me; when i read other types it seems very much not me

More than horoscopes, definitely.

But if you look into the whole introverted/extroverted functions (like the reason INFP and ENFP are super different despite only one letter difference), they have no actual relation to any psychological concepts

can you broadly put people into 16 categories? I guess so

also I think depressed people tend to default to INFP regardless. MBTI isn't supposed to be used on people with mental illness

Enneagram tries to take into account mental health (and does a terrible job), but ultimately there's no science behind any of this and the more you learn about objective personality measures the less captivating this type of stuff gets

basically I think MBTI can be useful for career/work style type stuff. it does try to get some real psych stuff in there but ultimately it's limited at best

enneagram is a bunch of bullshit full stop, and it doesn't really pretend to have any psychological basis. can you put people in buckets? sure. does it mean anything? don't really think so

otherwise, people are way too individual for typology

Billy might lean INTJ *for a musician*, but I don't see how an artist could be classified as INTJ

That's interesting, because every time I take some version of the MBTI, I'm essentially 50/50 introvert/extrovert.

Are the other 3 categories grounded in more concrete frameworks? I've noticed that there's some vague correlation that seems to make sense, but with a sample size of *my life* it's hard to know if it's just confirmation bias. Like my boss is INTJ and I'm INTJ, and we're analytical scientists, so it's sort of like "well yeah obviously". Then I have a pair of friends who like singing at parties and shit, and they're ESFP, and we're like "well yeah, of course"

It tries hard to be internally consistent, but what happens is that instead makes it way too rigid. So while it may be helpful to realize if you are more of a judger/perceiver, for example, INTP and INTJ are super different:

INTP:
Dominant Function: Ti - internal Thinking
Auxiliary Function: Ne - external iNtuition
Tertiary Function: Si - internal Sensing
Inferior Function: Fe - external Feeling

INTJ:
Dominant Function: Ni - internal iNtuition
Auxiliary Function: Te - external Thinking
Tertiary Function: Fi - internal Feeling
Inferior Function: Se - external Sensing

So not only do they somehow have different dominant functions, for some unexplained reason, their functions are reversed being internally or externally focused. And all that is different between these two types is a few different answers on some questions. So somehow if you're very similar to an INTP but rate yourself as more organized, all of your traits and their orders are completely different.

I much better test is the Big 5 personality test, but people find it boring, because it's way more general and doesn't attempt to figure out your entire personality. But you can correlate the results to mental illness, life outcomes, and probably lots of other stuff I've never studied (so in that sense it is falsifiable). You also are scored based on comparison to others instead of... whatever the MBTI uses. You can predict behavior with it, and it's fairly stable throughout someone's life.
