Flights were, if i recall correctly, about 400 euros for a return ticket between Amsterdam and Sao Vicente. Accomodation for our first few nights was 50 euros a night, for which we had the most ridiculously luxurious appartment (an art collector who rented out a part of his house). Living expenses are mostly very cheap.

We just returned from a hike, the two resident dogs came with us to show us the way. One spectacular view after another. Banana trees, shacks, elderly women casually walking up and down very steep roads - we had to take a lot of breaks. We saw some cows, a PUPPY, and a big fat pig that was having the time of its life.

Washington Post ran a story this morning about Cape Verde. It was just a tourist's overview but it was pretty interesting. I had no idea the population is an amalgamation of Senegambians, sephardic Jews, and Moors.

oh yeah I've heard of this place. will probably skip if you didn't think it was that great. I second labelle's sentiment that there is no reason for it to simulate meat if it's a veggie burger

the restaurant is good. It's called Bareburger. It's near Dupont Circle. They have great real meat burgers. They make their own veggie burgers too. I went there cause I heard they also served Impossible Burger and I wanted to try it. I'll probably go back soon and get a dead cow burger.

For what it's worth, I wasn't aiming to backpedal, because the original post was meant to be humourous and congratulatory. I apologized because, regardless of the intent, it's still an insensitive thing to say to a person with those issues.

Like, even if I said if in a clearer way, like "it's a good thing you gained 10 pounds, because you'll look hotter," it would still be a terrible thing to say, because making struggles with anorexia about appearance rather than health just feeds into the problem.

So, my bad, I said a bad thing.

i kind of agree but also, some people really like meat but really think it's wrong to eat it and want to stick to that. if eating fake-meat helps them do that, and stick to their principles, good for them
