it's just his opinion fellas jeez
4:13's alright, hardly the worst thing put out by a good band & i'll defend s/t 'til the bitter, fucking end so there y'are cure still a viable hit-making machine in 2014! |

4:13 is okay and all, I can dig it but when you're listing it over shit like 17 Seconds you need to stop

17 seconds is a fuckin transitional record at best, even i'd put 4:13 over that one
at least name something like pornography where they really "came out swinging" or whatev |

i 'on really care though if someone prefers later cure i don't think they deserve the kinda reactions spoon-lover got
i'm a "later-period cure apologist," in a sense, see, i need to see to these things |

it's understandable to be like "why prefer 4:13 to disintegration?" when they were kinda revisiting that sort of approach on it, but to use the limp-dick predecessor to faith & pornography/before they came into their own is just arbitrary as shit
then again if you don't like main-cure that much don't like main-cure! |

17 Seconds IS main Cure as far as I'm concerned
Three Imaginary Boys is the album where you can say "They hadn't found their identity yet" But 17 Seconds is the fucking Cure being The Cure with that gothy chorus effect and those dreary synths and the drum machine style beats and the pop hooks mixed with experimentation |

yeah, YEAH
it's the sound of a band about to "come into their own" but still sorta flailing & meandering a bit with pointless "atmospheric" shit to fill the space & practically inaudible vocals it's an alright record but not nearly strong enough to be the one of choice when trying to talk down post-disintegration cure or whatever |

But hey if you can't feel that one, I can only feel sorry for you
All their albums up to a certain point are A+ anyway. The Top is underrated imo |

they may have been a different band on 3ib but at least they were committed to it
17 seconds is like a broken frame or any other classic "sophomore slump" type record that isn't quite that shitty because they were trying new things, but it's still painfully, painfully obvious they took the same sorta thing and bested it on even the very next record the cure may have been using "cool chorus effects" or whatever the fuck on that album, but aside from the 2 singles they were basically hiding behind that faux-joy-division-with-some-can-records-in-our-collection sound, complete with "spooky" piano filler cos we're not entirely sure what direction we're going in & well, it's atmospheric! |

I think you also tried to tell me New Order is better than Joy Division who were "Coming into their own" so I guess I see a theme here

it's an alright record from a band that improved upon it immensely, no matter what angle you're coming from the top is underrated, or maybe just overlooked |

Why are you putting "atmosphere" in quotations like that. There are songs on there that are purposefully atmospheric, yes. And the album forms a cohesive atmosphere, yes.
But there's also plenty of pop |

because it's gimmicky in a way they really weren't before or after
like some kind of diversion effect from the fact that outside of the forest & play for today the songs weren't all that great |

All the Cure albums have a "gimmick" in that they have a cohesive feel to them
Faith is VERY atmospheric and so is Pornography, it's kind of a major element of their sound |

your first comment on the matter was faulting someone for liking an alleged "post-peak" cure record over a pre-peak one, it's arbitrary as shit and naturally i'm going to highlight the album's faults to dispel the notion the band could never do better or whatever |
