cromulent reference and correct pizzaing

pinnacle of this is neapolitan. the crust is divine; lovely leoparding and flavor. sauce and cheese are just a bonus
A good Neapolitan is hard to beat. 2 Amys and Pizzeria Paradiso are both in DC and pretty great.

chicago style deep dish and pan pizza are not the same thing. all the "pan pizza" I've had outside of chicago is just thick crust pizza baked in a pan.

Chicago is different starting with the crust, but also how the ingredients are layered.

Uno's, Giordano's, Pequod's... I've had it at other places that I can't remember. The original Uno's location downtown is basically a tourist trap. But we used to go there when i was a kid. We had an Uno's in Ann Arbor (where I went to college), but the pizza never tasted or looked the same there as it did in chicago. I remember likeing Giordano's the most.

I like proper thin crust... cooked fast in a high temp oven. Neopolitan style is the only type of pizza where I'll eat the bones.

for the most part i give DC a grade of "C" for pizza quality. The big slices the city is known for are garbage. And the weird square pizza that seems to be popular out in Maryland is just meh. But there are a few good pizza shops if you know where to look.

&Pizza has become a big thing here for some reason. To me it is the Chipotle of pizza. They seem to be in every neighborhood. I liked Campono which was next door to my building. Wood fired thin crust. But COVID put them out of business.

Not liking pequod’s is certainly a take!

Weird how the place literally calls itself "Chicago Deep Dish."

I feel a though I should write a review warning people that this establishment sells pan pizza, rather than its namesake. But at the same time, the place did give me a free Orange Crush and two complimentary mints, as well as a note asking me to rate them well. I feel it would be a betrayal.

Can I be bought?

No one should be leaving bad reviews during a pandemic lol. Where is this place? I want to look it up and judge it.

I have never seen proper "deep dish" outside of Chi town. Almost everywhere it ends up just being pan pizza.

I have also seen a lot of places advertising Detroit Style outside of Detroit and it usually is only a square pizza

rate them well but also note that the description is wrong

i am sure there are multiple rubes that don't know the difference; that doesn't make it bad pizza per se

I’ve never understood this categorizing types of pizza by city, as if every pizza place in a megacity follows the same rules for making pizza. I lived in Manhattan, and every pizza place I frequented was different.

It's not salami unless it comes from the Salami region of Brooklyn.

i think it's like, the platonic ideal of pizza in that place that exists less elsewhere

i'm not entirely sure what platonic ideal means but i've heard other people use it in that sort of way, i think

I do feel as though I've only ever tasted shadows of Chicago deep-dish pizza on cave walls.

Fuck this thread.

I mean you're not necessarily wrong, but deep dish pizza is the closest thing I have to a culture. It's just that, watching the Cubs lose, drinking Old Style, and going to Christmas Eve mass at the Catholic church with my mom, which we don't even really do anymore because organized religion and particularly the Catholic church are cancer.

Out of those things, deep dish pizza is the only one that I feel is beyond reproach. Until someone comes along with an axe to grind like "IT'S JUST SOUPY BREAD IT'S NOT PIZZA YOU FUCKTARD"

YOU GOT WHAT YOU WANTED ARE YOU HAPPY

The Twin Cities metro recently got a couple of Giordanos, and the locals simply could not understand how it was different from Old Chicago, which is the "Chicago thick" bullshit that you mentioned. It's perfectly fine BUT IS NOT DEEP DISH.
