out of curiosity, how is watching tv shows on the internet any different than watching them on tv?

yeah i watch a lot of tv shows but don't have cable or a tv, and here's why i prefer it:

1. no commercials, i don't even have to fast forward.
2. watch when it's convenient
3. not having to actively select what i watch (which is the case with cable) makes me zone out, when i put on each episode of a show intentionally i pay better attention and don't zone out

p.s. i torrent pretty much exclusively, so i'll grant it's not a legally feasible option (especially re: item 1)

also being able to watch the entire series of the wire at my leisure (borrowed the dvds from a friend) is much preferable than having to keep up with it week to week, i really don't like that requirement of television

i like being able to watch penguins games and nascar races. and football.

i don't really care about sports as much as i used to

i'll try and watch the nfl and i would like to watch more basketball but i end up paying so much for so little and then i get sucked into watching tv when i'm bored
