"i hate music"

i got this guy on the phone the other day who was pretty pissed about the security question he was asked when he tried to retrieve his email password. the question was "what is your favorite song". he was pretty pissed about this. why?

"I never set that up. I don't even have a favorite song. I hate music. All I listen to is talk radio."

It took me a second to wrap my head around the idea of how black hearted of a motherfucker you'd have to be to not even like music in any capacity. Not even shitty music.

Do you know anybody that hates music?

It does seem like you'd have to put some real effort into it, even though I can't come up with a justification for why music is so universally adored. I mean I guess if your dad used to beat you in time to a metronome you might develop a dislike for rhythm. But man if I talked to that guy I'd make him play me his ringtone, it's probably just like "EHNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN."

i hardly ever listen to other people's music, weirdly enough- i've had the same in album in my cd player for about 6 months and i usually just listen to it when i'm getting dressed in the morning or cleaning my room

a few years ago, i interviewed with someone who told me that she didn't like music. i had the same problem wrapping my brain around the concept, and decided right then than i didn't want to work with her.

I've met people who are sort of indifferent about music - they'll listen to the radio but not pay attention to who sings a song if they like it or buy CDs, etc. - but never one who hated it. I can't even imagine that.
