I believe Clapton made a deal with the devil to take his son so he could write a hit song about it. Making the song a lie since he wont' see him in heaven.

Q: What's the difference between Conor Clapton and a bag of cocaine?
A: Eric Clapton wouldn't have let the bag of cocaine fall out a window |

you'll always have very technical players like Wooten that was just mentioned but that basically just play bass to play bass, not so much in a regular...famous rock band context. I mean it's niche, it's bass playing for bass players (which i personally don't care for). Everyone knows what band Enstwistle or Bruce played in and what their songs are. I think of all the bands from the 2000s and on i like, none of them have a great bassist. And i don't even define great by technical proficiency, but like...a personality, some uniqueness, something that stands out. Its fairly bland now in bassland. |

Zach Smith (Pinback) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8aMDqjv8_U Has a really unique style, open strumming of the bass, weird chord voicings, and some not-quite-but-kind-of slap bass stuff going on. Maybe not the most flashy at times but so good. Dan Briggs (Between the Buried and Me) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSD9G_hzmiQ I know most people here probably scoff at metal like this but he's a music theory master and writes all the music, and the bass is really incredible in a lot of their stuff. Their clean parts can be kind of vaguely pumpkinsy actually. There aren't a ton that stand out to me, but part of that is a lot of the bass is moving to electronics. |

Yeah because back there was 1/100th of the number of popular bands then that there are now and there was less stuff to listen to. These days you can go years at a time without listening to any of the biggest bands in the world, so of course people are less likely to all know the same bass players.

Dirk Lance the original bass player for Incubus. Although his playing is very similar to Fleas almost like he's emulating him.

I know this is like the 40000th time someone has said this since 98 but: is it just me or is this place getting worse?
