New, free, Nine Inch Nails single.

Trent Reznor just posted the new Nine Inch Nails single, "Discipline," and it's available as a free download through his site. However you have to register, and get a confirmation email, and bounce back to a download page, and enter a password to get the music. I'm not saying this because I think it's a hassle, I'm saying this because yesterday the site cryptically said "Two weeks" so I'm wondering if this is a test run to see how the servers hold up before another surprise album release.

It's just a theory, but who knows? Maybe?

GET: Nine Inch Nails "Discipline" http://dl.nin.com/discipline/nin

UPDATE: The track's metadata says "Go to www.nin.com May 5." I betcha ANYTHING there's a new disc in the offing.

there is a very valid reason it took somebody over 24 hours to post this. the reason you ask? THE SINGLE SUCKS BALLS!!!!!!!!!!!!

he's gone from releasing something every five years to....whatever this is.

even if you only like one-third of what he's going to put out, you're still gonna get as much good shit. so if you don't like the single, it should be ok because you're going to get more shit pretty soon, or so it seems.

but i pretty much like everything this guy does so maybe i don't count.

i mean he's not going to make something on the level of TDS or The Fragile again. I'm ok with that though. this is all bonus material. but i like it.

"Discipline" is nothing special, but it does have a nice feel to it. I've been listening to Ghosts quite a lot recently. Some absolutely gorgeous moments there.

I liked the song.

Also, some people are speculating that it's a new website in 2 weeks?

I'm hoping it's some more Year Zero action...wasn't it only supposed to be a year? It's been a year, Trent. I'm ready for more mind blowing websites and puzzles and fun. GET TO IT!

that doesn't mean there can't be another project. or another company to do the next part.

true. although that part of the ARG though is done. Whether part 2, if there is a part 2 of the ARG that is, picks up where part 1 ended is also debatable I guess.

along with being part of a culture that creates and releases and mass downloading and whatnot, isn't there a fear of just putting anything out there?

yeah, make 5 albums in one year, but is it worth anything? is it going to be good? isn't it somewhat dilluting?

whatever.

this song is better than The Beginning of the End, at least. there's usually a clunker or two on his albums. i always like them though

Great that he is bringing out lots of music, but when it is this uninspiring does it matter?

I think I might be growing out of his target audience

That made me almost cry man!

I just went over to echoingthesound to see what they had to say and it looks like Trent still has plans for a part 2 but has other things on his plate right now.

I'm guessing with all the label crap and everything he has going on right now it's hard to plan it but if he doesn't do a part 2 and sum this shit up I'm going to be seriously upset. For everyone who paid such close attention to it and got drawn in, that would be shitty as hell for him not to at least put something out for closure. It'd basically be a slap in the face and a waste of time for everyone who cared about it.

Not to mention I miss it. I think about the Year Zero world from time to time and I really do miss it... *sniffle*
