davin mentioned them in another thread. they were played at soundchecks, and billy's asked that soundchecks not be bootlegged. so i guess we'll have to wait for them.

oh, there they are:

1) Mike Byrne sounds infinitely better when he's in his "metal drumming" mode, as evidenced by As Rome Burns. I had noted this before but now I'm pretty sure it's not a fluke.

2) Billy's wearing his polyester shirts again. No ridiculous costumes, thank goodness.

3 ) The problem with Matt Walker is that he played like a fricken drum machine--which is great for songs like Eye, but not if filling the shoes of someone who incorporated a style from jazz roots. His fit greatly improved, however. Arnoff is obviously a great professional studio drummer that delivers on cue but has no discernible style of his own.

4) There was a 10 year old crowd surfing to US?! LOL

5) The Pumpkins have always played LOUD. (I think they use a lot of mid/high end gain.) Every time I saw them prior to the 2008 tour, my ears were fucked up for a good day or so.

6) Yes, fans have been complaining about something or another since I can remember. No, not to the same degree as they currently are, but even as far back as the SD days people were complaining about how their live shows were more sloppy and had a considerably thinner sound than what they had expected based on their studio work. During the 1996 Jimmy Fiasco some fans were up in arms. When Adore was a drastic departure from previous SP material many fans were again concerned.

they played blessed mother in chicago tonight.

I have to admit, watching the youtube of this show, that the new stuff sounds somewhat better live - particularly freak.

and the new version of owata is about 10 billion times better.

That being said, I am glad to see him looking a little more like a human being while on stage

Not in the sense that it is actually an article of clothing he also wears while NOT onstage.

Would be happy to up this to my YouSendIt account once I get ahold of it somehow. My internet connections in life suck right now - so if somebody could get it over to me, I'd be happy to host it on my account.

Thanks, man!

If any of you want to skip the whole ZOMB/Torrent thing... here's a direct YSI link.

YouSendIt: Online File Sharing and collaboration with FTP Replacement - Send Large Files and Email Attachments with Managed File Transfer Solution

Thanks for the rip, Lucid. Funny how there were like 342 people who were all hoping that SOMEBODY would do it, and you're the one who did. Really appreciated.

on rome burns you can clearly hear that corgan can`t reach the high notes anymore. it is really sad to hear him fail beside a technically well performing band.
this song demands some epic that corgan`s voice can`t deliver anymore. maybe he has some disease. look at "soundgarden" this guy can reach the high notes as just as well as he was younger. surley his voice sounds generally a tad deeper, fuller, but this guy can sing the high notes. it makes me sad to watch such a fucked up vocal performance and to hear these pesky "whoooos" and how he tries to scream and as I see even the first row stands still, though this song pretends to be something like a driven rocksong. yesterday I heard old pumpkins tunes for hours so the difference is pretty obvious. it makes me sad that this performance gets shared and watched on youtube. too much attention to a present that isn`t worthy of this attention. we should people remind on how the pumpkins really were and not what they had become.

best wishes

charade

That's because Chris Cornell is the fucking man!

to be fair Cornell always was a far more technically adept singer than Corgan. Go back and listen to some SD-era live boots; Billy was a pretty awful live singing hard-rocking songs.

QFT
Especially in the late SD era, Corgan sounds like shit. But SP was never about his singing. Whereas Cornell's vocal power is pretty well known and respected in the rock world.

Also, Billy always struck me as having quite a thin, easily strained voice physically. So age will probably affect him much more differentially worse than it would someone who actually has a physically strong, well developed voice.

I've never thought of Corgan or Cornell as having a really comparable vocal styling, it's kindof like trying to compare an ultra-realist painter with a cubist
