Default Mellon Collie artwork inspired by old engraving

Don't know if this link has already been made.

I came across a famous engraving by the artist Albrecht Dürer. It is made in 1514 and subject of many interpretations. What struck me were the seemingly resemblances with the album Mellon Collie.

There is the title of this artwork "Melencolia I"

And secondly, a lot of symbols used in the booklet from the album can be seen in it.

The hourglass, the ladder, the cherub, the keys (hanging at the skirt) and the skull (reflected in the block).

During recording Billy was inspired by a lot of esoteric texts. And I think he used all sorts of art and symbolism in the album, including this engraving.

Another piece of art with possible resemblances is Flammarion.

Symbols that can be seen in both artworks:

Clearly most of the symbols are taken directly from the Freemasons:

The inspiration for the music video was "Le Voyage dans la lune" (1902)
of course >>>

that's because billy wanted unsuspecting teenagers to get tattoos of freemason symbols.

Believe it or not, in the 1700s they had their own version of Wingdings. There were books back then full of stock symbols that were something like clipart today... and a lot of masonry symbols seem to be lifted from these images. Many of the military medals and service badges in western countries are also derived from these symbols.

Yes, there were such a thing as stock printing blocks. Hence the endless repetition of symbols.

Knowing what we do now if Limp Bizkit was the pinnacle of shit we'd have to endure we'd all be deliriously happy.
