Default So what's the beef between WPC and Metro/Joe?

Not sure if he's covered this in any of the Q&As or not... but why hasn't SP played at the Metro this year? Seems like such a logical spot for them to hit for some surprise show or something of the sort.

Is there beef between he and Joe Shanahan or something?

Yes. Billy gave Joe a limited edition tea shop coaster with a handwritten poem on the underside. Later that evening, Billy saw Joe place a domestic beer upon the coaster, and Billy hasn't spoken to him since.

I’m sure it’s similar to the reason Billy had beef with many others: he’s an asshole.

Bands like sp don’t generally play there? It’s too small.

Alkaline Trio announced three there and had to add a fourth due to demand.

I saw the Oceania tour at the State Theater (where Bill stopped the set to make Mikey feel bad). It's a 2500 person venue and it was about a third full.

I saw them singing Christmas carols in the street over winter break and I threw a rock at them and the rock hit Jeff in the solar plexus and he had to stop singing

This is true, but sometimes bigger bands will book into a club to generate attention... SP played clubs in 2007 and it was really hard to get tickets (at least for the show I went to at 9:30), but it was a big deal. Billy also has a special relationship with 9:30 Club, so it made sense for him to do a promotional type album release show there. But it never happened at Metro. I think he definitely has a beef with Shanahan

according to SPFC, the Pumpkins played at the Metro in both 2011 and 2012. Before that, Billy hadn't been on the stage there since the Chicago Songs date in 2004.

pumpkins might have never been big if not for Shanahan.

Exactly. And considering how much the relationship between the band and the Metro was played up during the original run, I figure there must be bad blood now. I kind of suspect this is why Metro DVD never materialized as well

Shanahan put SP on big shows early on that got them noticed and also gave their demo to A&R guys which led to them getting signed. Bill really has no room to have any bad blood towards him.

Gotta be more than that because:

But, yeah - something weird went down between 2013 and the present. I was in Chicago in 2013 and had the pleasure of meeting Joe at the venue. Such an insanely nice guy. I told him of my love for SP and (no joke) he took me to his desk and showed me the original demo cassette that BC had sent him back in the day. He kept it right there at his desk, it still clearly meant a great deal to him. He spoke fondly of Billy and was saying that he was trying to get the band to play a benefit show sometime soon.

We got at least the show at the Metro for the release of the Siamese Dream album, in the deLuxe reissue from 2011. With an introduction speech by Joe Shanahan.

Is Shanahan a distant relation of Shadaloo?

They played a benefit show there in 2012.

http://www.spfc.org/tours/date.html?tour_id=1569

I remember it because Hipsters United was posting banter on Twitter, and Kerry would respond making snarky comments about Billy.
