I've listened to all of Loud Like Love and it really is an amazing album. Allmusic's review said it reminded them of OK Computer songs and I somewhat agree. It definitely takes me back some of the best stuff from the 90s. I think I now regard Placebo more highly than the Pumpkins in a lot of ways. And it helps that Brian Molko is a lot more self-aware and introspective than Corgan.

Placebo is basically British SP. Well actually that would be Catherine Wheel. But anyway Placebo has tons of angsty cringeworthy lyrics just like SP

"Whenever I was feeling wrong/I used to go and write a song from my heart/But now I feel I've lost my spark/No more glowing in the dark for my heart" -

A Million Little Pieces

I love you more than any man, but I seem to lay it all to waste.
I do you harm because I can with a joke in questionable taste.
I've such duplicity at my command, so I keep on lying to your face,
Then I run away to wonderland, and disappear without trace.

You know, I'm grateful, I appreciate..
But, in fact, it's baleful how I suck you dry.

I havent checked out any of their records since Meds which i thought was pretty bad. Then again, while i loved Placebo for a bit in the early 2000's , my musical tastes changed enough that i dont really give them a listen anymore. Well, i actually did recently as a nostalgia thing. But yeah, part of the reason i strayed away is that i find a lot of the lyrics, are cringe worthy a little. And reading about the Too Many Friends lyrics, i see it didn't get better with years. Back when Sleeping With Ghosts came out i think it was my favorite record, but with hindsight i'd probably say BMM then WYIN tied with SWG then self titled. Their first i uneven but i think it still has some of their best moments musically. Come Home is probably still one of my favorite of theirs.
