Brian Molko had a lot of issues with Without You I'm Nothing
The album that put Placebo on the map. The album that cemented them as alternative rock icons. I find it strange that he had so many problems with the album that made him famous and wildly successful and that is considered their best.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Without...(Placebo_album) Later on, Placebo's frontman Brian Molko stated that, despite appreciating Osborne's producing skills, the chemistry between band and producer "didnt spark the way we wanted it to spark", also adding that the album was "overproduced" and contained "too many slow songs for a second album". That said, he did not disown the album, adding that it is still an album the band is proud of. |

Besides he is in a way similar to Corgan - a self-doubting perfectionist. |

I guess to me this would be equivalent to Corgan looking back and having a lot of problems with Siamese Dream. The album allowed Molko to have a lot of artistic and financial freedom and opportunities. It gave him a future in the music industry.

Yes and didn't Corgan go on and on about the misery that SD brought?
Plus I still think Placebo's first and second album are equally good, the second one simply hit the commercial jackpot. Btw have you heard their latest album? Do you like it? |

No I understand that Corgan was miserable during the making of the album. But he didn't badmouth the album. There is a difference.

I heard the first single and really liked it. Still it didn't compel me to listen to the album.

Molko was a deeply troubled/fucked up guy, and iirc there was a lot of shit going on in his life around the recording of WYIN. So maybe his perception of the entire period is not "hurray, we hit it big" but rather "what the fuck is going on." I have the new album, didn't do much for me. Then I heard them live and now I really like several songs. |

The first album is too one dimensional. Not as much variety as the second.

Title track is pretty much the only good thing they ever wrote.

It's funny that you said that because that's like the only track on the album that I can't stand. It seems so whiny. And I love the title track for their next album BMM. I think Black Market Blood is one of the best things they've ever done.

The title track isn't even in my top 10, but I couldn't say that I can't stand it. BMM aged better than the first two albums imo.

BMM is more mature than their first two. Emotionally and musically.

Weezer's Pinkerton could be at the other end of the spectrum. They produced it themselves, it was critically panned, and Rivers' retaliated by pretending that he thought it was total shit. |

WYIN is my favorite Placebo album. BMM and SWG are fucking great too though. Battle For The Sun took over a year to grow on me and now i really like it.
i haven't listened to the new one much. |

the only placebo song that ever stuck out to me was "taste in men". someone once put it on a mix tape for me a million years ago and i tried to get into them after that but nothing really pumped my nads.

that line almost IS the album to me. i haven't listened to the whole disc much because of it. it's like back when Think Tank came out and i didn't like it for a while, but it was really just that i hated Crazy Beat. |

His lyrics started to get bad on Sleeping With Ghosts. The title track has the lines "Damn the government Damn their killing, damn their lies." That was also the album where the music started to decline.

The lyrics are terrible but I do like the music on the song Sleeping With Ghosts because it sounds like trip hop. The music on the rest of the songs is sub par though. Except for that one track no real progression.

"funny you should say that" or "funny you said that" is just an expression. It just means I found what you said odd or peculiar. Not necessarily that I found it actually funny or amusing.

that's what I meant. It strikes you as odd or peculiar that we, two different people, have two different opinions on a piece of music.

WYIM is the album that my ex boyfriend and I thrashed when we were getting drunk and high every day instead doing our uni work, and trying to find the courage to become more than friends. Pretty cute memories to be honest.
We never should have touched each other though - it was just the hormones talking. Damn this album...title track was my fave too. |

I listened to the last three tracks off of the new one Loud As Love and they are surprisingly really good. It sounds like a true return to form. If the rest of the album is as good as this it may be their best album since BMM.
Bosco might be the best ballad I've heard by them. |
