Another new song by Coldplay. Has an ambient feel to it.

I got my friend into the band Doves by telling him they sound a lot like Coldplay. I played them for him. He liked Lost Souls and Some Cities a lot. Otherwise he never would have known about them because they aren't popular in America like Coldplay.

you know what sounds a lot like coldplay? If U2 and Radiohead had a retarded baby and named it Chris Martin

Coldplay have entered the "Zooropa" / "Pop" phase of their careers. Their making more electronic, danceable sounding stuff as opposed to their more straightforward rocking older stuff.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonny_Buckland

Buckland's guitar style is mainly based on U2's The Edge's guitar sound, which consists mainly of ringing, conservative notation, various amps and distorters, and musical rawness.

Chris Martin has openly admitted to ripping off Elbow

What I like about Martin is that he is very honest about his influences. He likes to credit bands for inspiring him in interviews. And the bands that he cites are often very good (Elbow, Echo and the Bunnymen, Blur) He comes across as a very humble likable person.

Coldplay's original sound was like they took Bulletproof by Radiohead and made a band out of it

honestly I think the first two Coldplay albums are pretty enjoyable. They are not groundbreaking or original by any measure, but there's some good songs on there, Sparks, Scientist, Green Eyes... maybe it's just nostalgia but I still think they are pretty poignant. X&Y had some cool atmospherics and a few good songs but a bunch of filler and the fourth one was terrible, never listened to anything after that.

actually I listened to part of a newer one by them on an airplane a few years ago, it was on the inflight playlist thing. I had to turn it after a few songs, there was one with Rihanna. I put on Alison Krause instead

you know that makes me think it would be funny if you called yourself a coldplay cover band and what you did was play U2 and radiohead covers as coldplay would cover them

How can you not at least love this song? This song alone is as good as anything from A Rush of Blood or Parachutes
