Default The Chameleon Soundscape - Need some sound help, please

The Chameleon Soundscape, aka: me.

There are 5 varying tunes of mine on yonder linked to page. I have about 100 more to record and upload, but I'm a get-nothing-done type of guy, so what's there is there.
Here's your chance to laud me or rip me apart, or at least one of many chances. Let me know what you think and please, ladies, don't hesitate to throw your e-panties in my direction.

I think you're pretty talented man. Lucid Dreaming is great, seems like it would make a good intro to an album or something. I think you could benefit from more vocals, but all of this sounds pretty pleasing.

Thanks. You're totally right about there needing to be vocals on more of the songs, I need to get my ass in gear.

I've been struggling with a sound problem for the last several years, and new & expensive equipment purchases has failed to provide a remedy. The issue is that my recorded guitar sounds stuffy, or muffled. I've asked about it on some recording forums but to no avail. To clarify one thing: it is not an issue of mic placement. Every last inch and centimeter of my room has been explored in this respect, and the examples I am about to present represent the clearest sound I can achieve.

There are two recorded samples here.

The signal path is from two mics (sm57 & AKG 414b XLS)
--> into API a2d (uses the 312 preamps)
--> into 24 bits/96khz pc soundcard coaxial via SPDIF
--> into Cubase SX3

The clips are in 32 bit float wav format
Clip.wav is the raw recording
Clip w exciter.wav is the identical recording with some touch ups from Izotope's Ozone3 plugin. It lessens the muffled aspect slightly, but adds top end fizz.

Anyone with insight into my "muffled" sound, please share. Apart from that, how would you grade the sound quality in general?
