Not obsessed. I just found it hilarious that you ragged on me in the hip-hop thread for liking music that hipsters were into a couple years back and then came into this thread and started talking about Pelican who are pretty much the most hipster-friendly "metal" band out there when we both know you'd get through about fifty seconds of a Nasum record before you turned it off.

A friend of mine is a Mike Patton uber-fan. She's been to see FNM six times since they reunited and as such they all know her by first name now. Because they're coming down under for the first time in years and they're going to be in her hometown they've asked her to find them a nice place for dinner and said she can bring a few friends. I made the list apparently.

Soundwave rundown:

Baroness - Absolutely killed. Everything was note-perfect, sound was great, dudes rocked out hard.

ISIS - Great as usual but the sound was a little off. Only managed to get 4 songs in but the new stuff sounds rad live.

Glassjaw - Took a while to hit their stride but were super tight. Good show for what's essentially just generic emo with odd time.

Meshuggah - Sucked. Ran 20 minutes late with a 40 minute set having tech difficulties. Sound was overcompressed and the crowd was full of fuckheads. We left after the first song.

Jane's Addiction - Absolutely wild. Dave Navarro melted my face, Perry was going off in all his flamboyant glory, crazy props and weird geisha dancers and stuff. They finished with a new song with five drummers including Joey Castilo.

Faith No More - Sheer brilliance. Played some awesome covers (Don't Dream It's Over and Chariots Of Fire). Watching Patton pull out all his vocal tricks live is great fun.

We went backstage afterwards and hung with the FNM guys (didn't end up having dinner with them as planned, but it was cool anyway)

been rediscovering what a perfectly amazing album Boris - Amplifier Worship is. Such an amazing mix of psychedelic, doom, stoner, drone, experimental, rock...amazing production too.

I can now confirm those rumours that Genghis Tron are insane live. Also: Jacob Bannon is now my official replacement for religion.

Word. Mike Goddamn Garson and DEP *_*

Ever since Patton recorded with them and they got Greg Puciatto they've been getting insanely better with each album.
