Default Was Cash Car Star ever a good song?

The Adore version sounds like absolute shit, both studio and live, and the Machina II version is butt rock city.

A case could maybe be made for the Jay Leno version, but that’s only because of how ferocious JC’s drums are

Has the Adore version been released; other than the remix from the box set?

the lyrics are shit but it's just like Geek in that it's just a way for Jimbo to burn the lies off our souls

a dreamy section would be nice tho

it's lyrically dumb, but it's intentional (as opposed to the awful lyrics BC writes now)

musically it's a kick in the dick

no. it has never been a good song. people get worked up about the intense, excellent drumming, and conflate that with the idea of the song actually being good, which it is decidedly not.

if i happened to, for some odd reason, be watching that video on mute, i'd be almost certain, given kenny's body language, that the drums were making a zippity bop skippity bop kind of a sound

It’s an ok song. Would’ve been a decent single for airplay in the 2000 alt-rock stakes, better than The Everlasting Gaze for sure.

Despite being kinda bad with cheesy lyrics, it has an energy which works.

What about the version they were playing live in 2007? I couldn't believe I finally got to see the Smashing Pumpkins with Jimmy in Australia and they trotted out the bizarro Cash Car Star where Jimmy is predominately playing a lame 2/4 beat throughout, so annoying.

So yeah, without Jimmy crushing it, it's not a very good song

The lyrics are mostly cringe, but the drumming is pretty good and the song just seems like a pretty cool riff stretched out a bit longer than it should have been. Which if you think about it pretty much sums up SP as a whole, thnx.

Always seemed to me like it was a song that he/they didn't put a lot of time in for circumstantial reasons.

Adore era, it didn't really fit the album's concept, so it go scrapped, and all we have is a whatever demo from the boxset to check out.

Machina era, just sounds like it needs another week or so to fine-tune the lyrics and tighten up the meandering... but Virgin told Billy to go fuck himself with the double-album thing, so they just banged out whatever rough idea they had and moved on.

I think there's a good song in it somewhere... we just didn't get one.
