"We're An American Band" wasn't an obscure song and the lines are an obvious reference, not plagiarism. It fits the concept of the song and Machina. extremely pretentious and m3ta but not plagiarism. most people of Billy's age would immediately recognize it as a sarcastic reference to a bloated, self-indulgent, 'wave your hands in the air' rock band. i wish i could retitle this thread Literary Allusions and Similarities.
