The best sports handicapping movie is Lay The Favorite. It's actually based on the a true story which came from the fantastic book.

If you guys haven't checked out either, I'd highly recommend it. Although the movie pales a little bit when you watch it following reading the book but it features a real top-notch cast... Bruce Willis, Vince Vaughn, that chick from that 70's show with the big bazongas, the brown-hair kid from Dawsons Creak ETC.

Ehhh I don't really buy all that. I don't think it's a real addiction. It's a compulsion problem for some people, but I've learned long ago to stay away from the casinos. I'm only making steady money now... Sometimes not a lot, but it's essentially something that isn't ever costing me anything aside from time, but I enjoy doing it.

Problem gamblers are guys who are always going bust and betting on stupid shit. Believe me, I've seen these guys. I used to go and drink a few beers and play some roulette, and I've seen guys drop like 20 G's in the matter of a half hour and then be super distraught and like manic about it... Guys who seemingly can't afford it.

I've also seen the high rollers, do that and not so much as bat an eye lash or shrug a shoulder. Either way, it's always struck me as incredibly stupid.

Dude, you gotta read my threads.

I didn't go in big on the Redskins, but I had them in a 10$ parlay that netted me 60 bones. Put it this way man, I'd stay away from betting on any big-time public play when it's during a prime-time game... They'll only ever hit like 10% of the time.

Go to covers.com for your gambling needs. It'll show your percentages. They're not official but if you compare em to the percentages here http://www.scoresandodds.com/casinogrid.html?sort=rot , then you'll get a clear indicator of how the public is betting

For example, tonight my heart and mind and evaluation skills all tell me to roll with Dallas, but the numbers and circumstances suggest that Arizona is the play, so I roll with that and bet Arizona.

When it comes to NBA or NFL the talent level doesn't matter, it's all about what the circumstances suggest.

Feel free to ask if you have any questions.

Let it Ride is a great comedy that happens to be centered around betting the ponies. Dreyfuss is pitch perfect as a schlub gambler with Jennifer Tilley and David Johansen, a.k.a. Buster Poindexter, which was after his career as front man for the New York Dolls.

Last Boy Scout. Crime-cop flick with football as the backdrop. Seeing Lynn Swann ask that cowboy-hat wearing owner why attendance and ratings have dropped is rather prophetic now. It's been forevers since I've last seen it, need to check it out again to see if it's in any more revealing than what I remember.

Fuzzy can quit anytime he wants. It's no big deal. He's in control of this. It's not in control of him.

One rule I've tried to get Fuzzy to take in is this: don't ever ask shitty teams to do you big favors.

Fuck man. You can tell the refs were trying to do everything in their power to fix it but the Cards are just schmucks.

The refs were pretty much gifting them the final TD with all those non existent penalties and then probably the 2 point conversion which would have ended in a cover for my 3.5. As they say, if you're not good enough to follow through with a ref orchestrated fix, you won't be in the league long.

I've been taught one thing though, If a team fucks up a fix, they'll be sure to "make it up" the next week. So it'll be interesting to follow the Cards line for next week.

Still, my record in the thread is 7-4. People pay big money to get picks that hit at that percentage.

We'll get em next week Ram.

If there's no foreign chemical dependency, then it's not an addiction as far as I'm concerned.

This sex addiction, gambling addiction talk is nothing but left-wing drivel. It's simply an excuse for weak minded people I.E "it's not my fault, I have an illness, man". What it is is a compulsion problem which is a mental illness but it certainly isn't an addiction.

You're right about this, and it's still something I have to learn.

You can tell the refs were desperate for a back-door cover in that game, but if a teams too shitty to take advantage of the gift, then it's really all for not.

On the other hand, shitty teams are some of the best bets to cover because the public is prone to exaggerating how bad a team actually is.

But in hindsight, this was just a bad bet. The glaring factor should have been that the line was originally Dallas -3.5... Which essentially means they'd have to win by a tuddy on the road against a "perceived" good team. That should have been enough to turn me off. But it's a lesson, I've made the notes, and now it's on to the next week.

This is a good point... but when the QB looks a bit old and washed up, you may need to reconsider.

in the end all repetitive, compulsive behaviors come down to sweet sweet dopamine addiction
but addiction isn't an excuse for anything, whether gambling or drugs. it IS an explanation. those aren't the same thing.

and yes you are addicted to gambling, quite obviously

Haha that's rad man. Fuck, at this point I think I'd rather check out a JC clinic than see Billy and whatever lineup he's with next.

I think we need some actual figures for the ultimate comparison of betting with fuzzyroes versus literal money in the bank.

Perhaps duovamp could confirm the current rates on fixed-term deposits.
