Set the Ray to Jerry Appreciation Thread
Soooooooooo good.
Killer groove with beautiful guitars and drums, and a perfectly driving bassline. Lyrically and musically this song is bliss. I got to hear it live once and it made my day. I didn't know this song existed until like 2004 though. I wasted my life up until then. Let's hear some love for this track, you little fucks!!! (Also idgaf if this thread has been made a billion times, it needs to be made infinity times - and you can't search for the terms "set" "ray" or "to" either, even if you use "set the ray to jerry" all in quotes..) |

I recently read some review on TAFH and said that Set the Ray was the worst from the 1979 single. Fuck them.
Have you listened to the '92 demo? It's awesome as well. |

i hadn't listened to this song since the "revival" or whatever you want to call it. this song embodies the spirit of the old pumpkins. truly amazing.
also, jimmy's drumming is so understated and graceful. gotta love it. it will be missed. |

I like how the phrases are made up of five bars instead of the usual four.

Ugh. It is a beautiful song, but I associate it with some of the saddest and darkest months of my life. It was then when I discovered the song on Judas 0. This, Winterlong, Waiting and a few others make me feel

It is a great track...I saw it live too and I believe it was the first time they played it since 97 or 98? So I was going bazurk.
Or maybe that's when I heard Radiohead play Talk Show Host live...I can't remember now. |

I like it, but 'want you / need you' lyrics are pretty terrible.

I dunno, sometimes I think that says it all. "I want you/I need you" is exactly how you feel sometimes, simple as it may be. But he sings it rather Billy-esque, and I love that. It's more than just "I want you/I need you" ya know?

This song is so simple yet amazing!!!
I've heard the version from QaoS, but is there any evidence of a studio version from the Siamese Dream recording sessions existing??? That would be pretty cool. |

In my top 10 if not top 5 Pumpkins songs.
Also, one of the few Pumpkins songs that has been covered decently. What was that band called? Zolof the Rock and Roll Destroyer or something? Last edited by lambert : 02-05-2010 at 04:31 AM. Reason: I'm retarded |
