Chicago, Houston, Miami, and Atlanta all have bigger metro areas than Boston. San Fran/Oakland and Detroit are just behind Boston. Don't the Patriots get much, much more media coverage than any of those franchises?
Admittedly, the Pats continued success has a lot to do with that, but it's not like those five cities I listed (NFC East + Boston) are huge juggernauts compared to Chicago, Houston, Miami, Atlanta, San Fran/Oakland, and Detroit who get far less coverage. Not denying there aren't other factors, but I do think proximity to ESPN factors in. |
