i feel like most of them have potential but the only one that wasn't fucked up in the studio is neverlost.

with better production and better choices on embellishments the album could have been awesome. there's a 4/5 album buried in there if you produce it well and switch some bsides in there for other songs.

He's pretty much just bald as a cue-ball now. I remember there was a shot of him around 2007 or 8 where you could see it and it was just the classic horse-shoe baldness with the only hair on the back and sides.

He could easily afford to get a hair treatment to grow all his hair back. Chris Martin, for instance, was going bald like all wimpy jude law type british guys do and he obviously had some sort of treatment to stop it.

I like Tarantula better than I used to. That chugging rhythm guitar going through the whole song is pretty cool. The breakdown is rad as someone else said. Considering that ZG was supposed to be a "no frills, grab you the balls, instantly accessible" SP album, it feels like Tarantula was the blueprint for this, all the other songs are variations, more or less.

Chris Martin seems to have a receding hairline. He's not going bald but it's definitely receding.

In response to the original question, Jimmy and Billy started exercising together when the Pumpkins reformed. I would be willing to guess that this was the one and only time Billy ever exercised in his life. The combination of vegan and exercise is probably what made him so thin.

That's not entirely true. I wrote the first review on Netphoria cause I had an early press copy and I told you how it sucked balls really hard.

Butch Vig amplified the guitar sound. RTB amplified Billy's vocals.

It's not so much a matter of over-production, as the production embelishing Billy's weakness as an artist rather than his strength

Jimmy's drumming is buried in the mix on ZG while Billy's rough as shit god awful vox drown them out.

Instead of million guitar overdub, we got the million bolly choir.

RTB style production works on a guy like Freddie fuckin Mercury, on bolly it's just grating

I listened to Doomsday Clock loudly in my car for the first time in years today. It's hilarious how the intro just kinda farts its way in and doesn't explode like you think it's supposed to. I also forgot how bad Billy's vocals are. He sounds like hes talking into the mic the entire time

This is what Zakk Wylde had to say about working with RTB in the 80s:

“When we first went into the studio, I remember being so excited, like, ‘Wow, we’re working with Roy Thomas Baker! He worked with Brian May!’ I was thinking that this was where all the magic was gonna happen. But pretty early on, I knew that wasn’t going to be the case. There was one time I was listening back to some guitar tracks, and I said to Roy, ‘Dude, we need more meat on my guitar tone.’ And I remember he turns to me and goes, ‘Well, Zakk, hit the “meat” knob.’

RTB eventually walked out in the middle of the sessions, and they had to redo the entire album because it sounded like shit.

Default Billy's drug usage

So what drugs has billy been on through the years I know he talked about using before but never specified what he used. I'm pretty sure he doesn't use them now 'cause the only thing he's addicted to is cheeseburgers, writing shitty music, pissing the old fans off, and whining in pointless interviews.

Zeitgeist reissue could be really good.

Oceania and TFE are the only post 2000 albums that I can listen to without reservation. its a shame. billys finally losing me, a longtime oboarder who even defended oddities like "Astral Planes" and "Come On Let's Go"...

ah well, life goes on

i feel the same, dusk. i'm into most of the post-2000 work, even if most of it pales in comparison to billy's 90s work. but monuments... this is the first album i've ever heard from billy that, while it has its moments and has some good, addictive songs, it just isn't doing it for me. i'm already tired out after 3 or 4 full listens. it's just not deep enough of a work to return to, like i like my pumpkins albums to be. it's a real shame, and all i ask is that day for night is, at the very least, a slight improvement over oceania.

Actually the truth is the shitty sound and production started on Adore when Bjorn Thorsud joined the team. It's been downhill ever since they hooked up.
