Default well-perpetrated myth about antibiotics?

“the idea that stopping antibiotic treatment early encourages antibiotic resistance is not supported by evidence, while taking antibiotics for longer than necessary increases the risk of resistance”.

mind blown

The real problem is not that people shouldn't keep taking them, it's that what an optimum treatment is has not been establish. Most of the times the 7 vs 10 vs 14 day treatments are somewhat arbitrary and based on, mostly, the doctor's experiences. Additionally, we don't necessarily know what bacterium someone is sick with when they get sick. Unless we want to test everyone when they come up sick to make sure they don't have those illnesses that you should absolutely take antibiotics for a full course (like staph infection), it makes sense to give people a course of antibiotics and not "take them until you feel better."

In my opinion

You see y'all; even Dr's can be indoctrinated and thus profoundly ignorant.

The controllers of their grant-funded studies which prescription models are based on in part, always knew the science was flawed. Kudos to these Doctors standing up for the truth.

i know that doctors are highly ignorant about many antibiotics and their toxicity. everyday many people are not taken seriously when reporting side effects to their doctors, and are told to keep the course until the end. damage ensues and they are left to themselves with no resources.

antibiotics are completely unnecessary. treat any fever simply and naturally by wearing wet socks. any bacterial colonisation is best to cure with prevention by consuming kefir and sauerkraut every day. if your body has been colonised it's simply too late.

Why do people complain about fluoride in the water?

Doesn't that mean I have to brush less?

Thread title is misleading. It doesn't refer to an actual myth. Simply refers to clinical understanding if antibiotic efficacy vs current standard of care.

"the idea that stopping antibiotic treatment early encourages antibiotic resistance is not supported by evidence"
