i'm sure i've told this story before but... in those first pics where billy is at the piano, i was standing against the side of the piano, between him and the photographer. his mic stand wasn't staying in the right place, and as he tried to fix it, he handed the mic to me and asked if i knew any jokes. i instantly thought of nothing, but luckily was saved by some other idiot in the crowd who told some terrible joke.

yelena was there for at least one of the nights, though perhaps more, i don't recall. i'm pretty sure her and bc were broken up at the time. she sat off to the side, and i noticed she was crying when they played "settle down"

josh homme was there one night, too. he didn't perform, but sat by the side of the stage for some songs. i remember seeing him outside chatting with someone in the parking lot and thinking how fucking tall he seemed. he was wearing all denim, if i remember correctly

it was weird when someone (not bc) would be on stage playing, and bc would be off to the side... sometimes he would be looking through the crowd and we'd make eye contact. this was the first (and i suppose, only) time i've been in such close, casual quarters with someone i once really admired-- the only famous person i'd ever cared about meeting-- someone who played a huge part in shaping my younger years-- and now he was just hanging out in the same room
