"Yeah. I do. I need a producer and I resent needing a producer. I do. Not to bring up the merits of my production skills but I resent needing anybody. That’s part of the maturity thing, I guess. Knowing when you need people and admitting it."

The fact that he even admitted to this is fucking mind-boggling.

His pretentious talk of Buddha and enlightenment sounds exactly like any other smug shitheel I've met who invests in that philosophy - full of lofty and elliptical talk about improving one's self while the rest of the world is asleep, selfish, or doesn't get it. In today's day and time, it's already a cliche.

Let Me Give The World To You is just an ok song, and the Rubin version is particularly boring and uninspired.

I was just thinking this. I enjoyed the Rubin version of "Let Me Give the World to You" that was recorded for Adore, but I feel like Corgan - when he reflects on the song - expects it to do too much "heavy lifting." Yes, it was a catchy song and probably would have caught more attention had it been released as a fist single, but I really do not think it would have been the single that saved the album in the public's eye. I consider it a "B" level song (although I like the Machina II version a LOT more), and honestly feel the "casual" fan would not have found it any more exciting than "Ava Adore" or "Perfect." (Both of which I consider stronger songs than LMGTWTY)

Even if the single had garnered more attention, it would have stuck out like a sore thumb compared to the rest of the album, and people would have complained that it did not accurately reflect the rest of the album's sound (a common complaint of late 1990s albums). Even "Ava Adore," which reflects some of the themes and sounds of Adore, seems much more up-tempo and energetic than a lot of the album's other songs. At that point, the average person still considered Smashing Pumpkins a rock band. The only shelved Adore song I could see having been a huge hit would have been "Cash Car Star," although to be honest I'm not 100% sure if that was written for Adore or immediately after.

There was a guy who posted on the O-Board, I believe his name was Mayfair, who knew someone who had worked as an engineer on the Rubin version of the song. Mayfair basically said, years before the Adore re-issue, what we realized when we heard it in 2014. It really was not that great, and the Machina II version of the song is definitely the definitive version of the song. The guy said Corgan basically came up with the "I purposefully left the best song off the album" narrative to convince himself that Adore's lackluster reception was a well-thought out decision, and to avoid facing the fact that he made an album that just didn't connect with a lot of fans. He even said that before the album came out, Corgan essentially told people he did not think the Rubin recording did the song justice and wanted to re-record it for a later album.

His behavior doesn't reflect his spiritual beliefs at all. It's more like he uses it as justification for being a twat. "Everything I do is enlightened, therefore anyone against me is unenlightened".

Totally. The Rick Rubin version is bland sounding, and the drum fills sound like Ringo Starr having a seizure. They mess up the flow of the song.

There's no way this version of the song could have saved Adore commercially (or whatever Billy is claiming). It might have worked better as a song if they'd given it the full Adore treatment. Even then, Ava Adore is way stronger.

I remember finally listening to that version of the song, when the band uploaded it on YouTube before the reissue came out. Had I not known it was the Rick Rubin version of the song, I would have honestly believed it was some remix of the song with Mike Byrne playing the drums. Hell, even Byrne's drumming was not as tasteless as those fills.

finally hearing the LMGTWTY Adore version was incredibly disappointing because it kind of sucks and would have been one of the weakest songs on the album had he put it on

Joey Waronkers drums on LMGtWtY are terrible. Clunky and hesitant fills. I like the rest of it and the guitars are pretty sounding but his drums make it forever an outtake.

We didn't get the original Rubin version tho, all we got was a remixed/remastered version. We'll never know how the original one sounds.

I mean, I doubt the version on the Adore box set is much different from Rubin's mix. It's the same recording after all.

Also, big time agree on the Hamburg 98' live version being the best. Kenny's drums are great. They should have recorded that version and released a single.

Let Me Give The World To You sucks. Boring, boring, mediocre track. Adore has many other better b-sides/additional tracks than LMGTWTY. It doesn't really fit on Adore as it is. It would need a complete rework to sound right on Adore.

Glynis is also the same record, but it sounds very different from each other. The Adore Box version was clearly altered, and you can hear a few glitches caused by the remix along the song.

To me "Let Me Give The World To You" has the charme of a mediocre James Iha song. So Billy's idea to put it on the end of the intense record was a good idea.

If the record company hadn't told, they wanted the song as the first single, which Billy tried to avoid by leaving the song complete from the album, the release with it as a peaceable closing song would have been the best compromise.
