Hmmm always struck (no pun) me as thumbing your nose at someone who thinks they can control you because you'll desire their love. It's like, not only fuck your love, but I got somethin better: gonna disconnect

And then disconnect is like goin your own way an shit, like fleetwood mac

I'm disconnected by your smile/Disconnect a million miles

I don't need your love to disconnect

You cannot be serious. Of all the not obtuse lyrics in BC's canon, this is easily one of the simplest.

Maybe a lyric like this is one of the dividing lines between SP and SP2.0 fans

Read the lyrics of TAFH (song) - disconnection is a mostly positive thing. It's referencing tunnel-vision love. BC is talking about a love that distracts him and rescues him from every day life. Disconnection. Although in the end he knows it's not true or real (hence later lyrics like "i don't need your love to disconnect"). He knows that love alone cannot make him feel that way.

Don't forget that the album comes from a young persons point of view. Doesn't anyone remember being so in love that a mere smile from the other person can take the hurt of the entire world away?

Quote:
Love is a sentimental heart
Life is a sentimental way
Spy the fragile heart so cursed
As he walks across this earth

Yup. If you're pilled out or methed up, sugar is all that is palatable.

I think some are bullshit, but pretty while others have a lot of meaning. I never understood the knock on his lyrics. One of things that brought me to love SP (after the drums and guitar) were the lyrics - especially the moment when you took the time to look them up and realized he wasn't saying what you thought he was saying the whole time. If you followed them early the lyrics really weren't available until MCIS. They were on SD, but a chore to read, but once I sat down and tried following the SD lyrics I was like, "holy shit this is some poetic shit right here." "Shame my tongue/fat with promise all along." Nice

I like Isaac Brock because it is so real, humanistic, and straightforward like Bukowski or something and Corgan on the other side of the spectrum because it is flowery and poetic like Lord Byron.

i liked the SD artistic design and all, but thought it was a shame those lyrics were so hard to decipher. as one cohesive piece SD is second only to Adore lyrics wise.

I think Bill hits the lyrical bullseye most often on Adore, although MCIS for some reason seems to be the album most focused on lyrics.

i dunno, MCIS arguably has the most distinct style (adolescent dreamy cherub poetry) that's frequently associated with the band, but adore takes the cake by and large when it comes to lyrics.

Isaac Brock is a great lyricist. Continually stunned by him. Very similar to '65-66 Bob Dylan (his biggest influence on Lonesome Crowded West). Great & insightful speed freak word vomit.

I always thought "Love is suicide" in Bodies is a coded way of Billy expressing his uneasy feelings about his role in Kurt's death...
