Del Toro is like Joss Whedon except he's a better director

I get that they were going for an anime tone in this film but i still think it failed on that point. It's like great giant robots, if only i could give two shits about ANYTHING else in this film.

I mean seriously between the plot and characters of this film or those of Transformers.... kinda boring cliches all around. the only difference is they were likely deliberate in Pacific Rim. Great so you made it willingly stupid.

it wasn't anything like transformers. the only serious problem with the film was the 3D version, which was total shit visually. Something about the CGI rendering didn't translate well.

some people go to movies about giant fictional robots fighting giant fictional monsters and afterwards they complain that the movie is unrealistic.
almost like it's fiction or that it's based on cartoons or something |

i dunno, the art direction and visuals in any gillermo del toro movie are going to be approx 100x more awesome than any run of the mill bayesque blockbuster.
also it has idris elba and charlie day in it |

I'm really not sure why Del toro is getting a pass on this when it's at best just a inch less dumb then Michael Bay's Transformers..........(well ok the one with like the ghetto Autobots was a lot stupider than this) |

at one point i thought i felt a plot twist coming along, and then it didn't happen and i was pretty disappointed because it would've been awesome
also that line about "that's where the dinosaurs came from" made me laugh so hard i basically couldn't suspend disbelief afterwards |

I enjoyed it. Its just fun. Balanced cheese with cool geeky action and violence and with bad acting. Like hellboy. I'm excited for 2. Something that doesn't take itself too serious.

There is still hope for Hellboy 3. Ron Pearlman continues to lobby for it.

All i'm saying is you're all fucking geeks.
And when i'm calling you geeks, you've got a problem. And yeah i leke Del toro alright but didn't care for this. It was his worst film since Blade II. |

i know more about dinosaurs than i do about theoretical physics or the engineering considerations related to building giant robots, so my threshold for hypothetical silliness is correspondingly lower also they just threw it in there pointlessly and nothing in the film was contingent upon it or reinforced by it. spanner |
