Had some friends over for lunch today and I made lasagna because yes I am that boring and suburban and we lived dangerously and split a bottle of Pinot noir four ways.
My husband and I know nothing about wine, and refuse to spend more than $35 on a bottle which leaves us between a rock and a hard place in Singapore. But we’ve found this wine at the duty free shop at the airport and just keep buying bottles every time we come through. Recently I bought a bottle of tanqueray malacca thinking it would be interesting but it just smells and tastes like gin. Which isn’t bad, I love gin. But still disappointing. Why bother? (Answer: because dumb expats like me will impulse buy it) |

Vertical Horizon and Tonic came here a few years back. That was pretty cool too, I have to imagine.

It's pretty foolproof too. Can substitute the meat with grilled mushrooms if you wanna go the vegan route. |

I've never spent $35 on wine. I think my max is $20....but I usually spend about $12.

I've never seen a bottle of wine for $10 or less. Lowest price I've seen is, like, $15. But in Canada, provinces put barriers to trade on liquor from other provinces. Even trying to bring large quantities of cheaper beer from the next province over will get you fined at the provincial border, and your booze seized by Mounties.
Local liquor industries are vehemently anti-competition, and the provincial governments yield to them because of how much tax revenue liquor provides. So, we all end up paying more for liquor. I usually don't spend more than $20, maybe $25 for wine. I'm no connoisseur, I just get whatever's got an interesting label and see if it tastes good. This has only led me astray once, when I brought what tastes like vinegar to a New Year's party. I've been to a few wine tastings, but I hardly retain the information given to me. |

we can get 10$ bottles in Québec, but most are crap. some are good enough to drink with your spaghetti. Many wines at the 12-14$ range are actually pretty decent.

You're definitely dabbling in some stage four irony when a high-vis vest isn't cutting the mustard.

sometimes she sees me looking at her and looks away, which I don't mean to look like I'm always looking, I'm actually actively not looking, which is hard because it requires that I look to know where to not look and sometimes I look up and she is looking at me eek so I look away

Just talk to her. Rejection isn't the worst thing.
Well, being rejected by everyone ever is absolutely the worst thing. But I mean, no particular rejection is that bad. Just the cumulative weight of all of them together confirming that you're an inferior human being with nothing to offer and nobody will ever love you. But, like, each one on its own is— it's, you know— it's tolerable. So, go for it. |

She's probably thinking "Where do I know that guy from?"
Soon, she'll stumble across the video for The Perfect Drug on YouTube and everything will click into place. |

What's taking you so long, Elph? If it were me, I would have been rejected and crying about it to Netphoria already.
