Billy admits that the store is not turning in a profit...even after two years.

I wonder how the business would have done had Billy not parted ways with his original partners. I'm guessing they differed in ideology.

I just don't see how this store is going to continue if it doesn't start turning a profit in the next year. Two years in the red is a very bad sign. It looks like a decent enough area, but I don't think Billy has a refined business acumen.

He can still take a DIY approach but he doesn't seem to want allow much outside influence or interaction. I think he could try and involve the community a lot more in the art aspect of the business, not just as the occasional gallery show but as local talented artists that can create art for the online shop. People will pay for great work. Problem is that Billy doesn't seem keen on paying people or cutting them a profit. It looks to me like he's running it as a personal hobby, like his own personal sandbox. I don't think that's conducive to building a successful atmosphere that people feel like they belong to and want to support.

Can't wait for retarded smashing pumpkins fans to start making noise music and exclaim "I'm doing musique concrete!"

Most people just call it noise music. Experimentation with noise music started off before this in the 1910's or 1920's by a bunch of avant-garde art groups around Europe. Seems unnecessary for him to even call the event musique concrete. I try to avoid calling Billy pretentious, but this would fit the bill.

The part that gets me is that in the description that was given it's going to lead people who don't know any better to believe that the term is based around electronic music. I find that misleading, especially from a historical perspective which BC seems to be wanting to sell it as.

Also it's the Italian Futurists, to be specific, that you were referring to.

That's what I took it as, that Billy was trying to tie in his work to a historical perspective in order to legitimize it. It is misleading but I suppose that's what people get, too, for being fucking stupid and not broadening their horizons to anything beyond what Billy says or does.

That's right, the futurists. The dadaists were involved too, weren't they? I took a course ages ago where we had to listen to a few of their noise music works.

The Dadaists worked mostly with spoken language as music composition but the Italian Futurists used objects for sounds.

Speaking very very generally.

oh yeah, that's right. It has been a while since I listened to any of that but, from what I do remember, Billy's attempts pale in comparison. But he seems pretty hell-bent on riding this wave noise experimentation that he's really into all of a sudden.

i mean most of us know he didn't read siddhartha

that's like the perfect example of pretension. "I'm going to fuck around with synths for 8 hours set to this important book i always wanted to read because that's the kind of thing important artists like myself would do."

or like take his mindless rambling on alex jones. affecting greater importance and knowledge than he actually possesses.

He is a Hesse "fan", I'm certain he knows Siddhartha
Which made this performance worse imo

Hesse, DJ Ivory Tower, "musique concrète" - you can call it pretentious, to me it looks like he's just trying to enjoy college life of any second semester arts student. He never had that, so he's toying around now.
